(Minghui.org) A 52-year-old retired worker from Shengli Oil Field’s Xinda Services Company in Dongying City, Shandong Province, is still awaiting a verdict after she stood trial in Guangxi Province on December 6, 2024 for raising awareness of the persecution of Falun Gong.
Ms. Qiu Hongmei vacationed in Longsheng County, Guangxi Province, and was arrested there on May 13, 2024, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her fellow tourist from Shandong Province, Ms. Li Hongli, a retired worker from Shengli Oil Field’s Water Company, was arrested at the same time but released on bail a bit over a month later.
Ms. Qiu has since been held at the Guilin City Second Detention Center in Guangxi Province and denied family visits. She stood trial at the Guilin City Intermediate Court on December 6, 2024. Her family was not present. It was unclear whether her loved ones were ever notified of the hearing or if they were barred from attending the session.
See the first related report, below, for details of Ms. Qiu’s and Ms. Li’s arrests. Prior to this latest persecution episode, Ms. Qiu was given two years of forced labor after she was arrested on March 25, 2005. Her daughter was only four at the time and had to live with her grandparents. See the rest of the related reports for details of her past persecution.
