(Minghui.org) Ms. Xia Honglan, 68, in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, was sentenced to three years for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Xia was arrested on July 3, 2024 after she was reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. The Dahuxi Police Station submitted her case to the Huizhou City Procuratorate. She was issued a formal arrest warrant. It’s not clear when she was indicted, tried, or sentenced.

This is not the first time Ms. Xia was targeted for her faith, which she credits for restoring her health. She was arrested on October 2, 2022 after a young man reported her for talking to him about Falun Gong. She was taken to the Qiaoxi Police Station. The police called in three 610 Office agents, who searched her bag and confiscated her house key and more than 100 yuan in cash. They beat and cursed her. They also photographed her. They cuffed her hands behind her back and took her to her home. They seized an unknown amount of items and left her there.

About five agents knocked on her door after 7 p.m. on January 21, 2024. She refused to let them in. They left but kept calling her son, ordering him to keep an eye on his mother and not allow her to step out of the door. Her son in turn warned her to just stay home as he didn’t want her to get arrested.

Two community workers harassed Ms. Xia on February 5, 2024. Two months later, the authorities launched a new campaign to target local Falun Gong practitioners. Many practitioners’ homes were raided and they were summoned to the local police stations to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong.

Ms. Xia was arrested at 8 a.m. on April 19, 2024 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong at Ma’an Town that morning. A man and a woman from the local 610 Office, as well as the police, interrogated Ms. Xia at the Ma’an Town Police Station. The two 610 Office agents seized her house key and instructed five officers to take her to the Huizhou City Third People’s Hospital for a physical examination and to have her blood drawn.

Ms. Xia was held at the Huizhou City Lockup for seven days before being released.
