(Minghui.org) Four young officers violently dragged Ms. Huo Guilan downstairs from her fourth-floor apartment unit all the way outside the building, causing her body to bump against the concrete stairs repeatedly and resulting in her being severely injured. The judge in charge of her case however claimed that an officer accidentally fell and knocked her down.

Ms. Huo, born in June 1950 and from Baoji City, Shaanxi Province, was targeted for her faith, Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. Her violent arrest took place on the night of April 11, 2024. The four arresting officers from the Chencang District Police Department did not allow her to change her clothes or shoes before dragging her downstairs all the way to their cruiser.

One of Ms. Huo’s ankles was severely injured and swollen and she had difficulty walking. The police took her to the Baoji City Second Detention Center the next day. Her condition kept worsening. She was dizzy and experienced chest pain, back pain, and had breathing difficulty. She also had vaginal bleeding. Her hearing and vision declined. Her family requested that she be released on bail but their request was turned down.

The police submitted her case to the Jintai District Procuratorate, which indicted her on October 18, 2024.

The Jintai District Court heard her case on December 17, 2024 but the details are being investigated. It’s only known that judge Liu Yan stopped the clerk from recording the court proceedings.

Judge Liu, prosecutor Wu Xuan and two others deposed Ms. Huo at the detention center on March 13, 2025. They verified a few things with her, including 1) her employment and salary before her retirement; 2) her five-year prison term from early October 2001 to late September 2006 for practicing Falun Gong; 3) she was given ten days of detention in 2020 for distributing Falun Gong informational materials but the police did not enforce the punishment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Liu also claimed that the police did not intentionally drag Ms. Huo downstairs during her arrest on April 11, 2024. Instead, they claimed “an officer accidentally fell and knocked her down.” Liu also said three community workers witnessed the home raid that day, but it was not true. When Liu asked if Ms. Huo changed her opinion about Falun Gong, she reiterated that no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong.

Ms. Huo repeatedly demanded to see the legal basis for her prosecution. Liu had nothing to show her but said, “You’ll know the legal basis once a verdict is issued.”

A second hearing was held on March 24, 2025 but details of it are also unclear.

This is not the first time that Ms. Huo has been targeted for her faith, which she credits for eliminating her cervical spondylosis, bone hyperplasia, tracheitis, laryngitis, cold intolerance, gynecological disease, lumbar muscle strain, leg pain, and gastroenteritis.

Ms. Huo went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in April 2000 and was arrested. After she was escorted back to Shaanxi, she was held at the Xincheng Detention Center for 15 days. The local police kept harassing her after she was released.

Ms. Huo was arrested again in June 2000 after delivering a Falun Gong brochure to the chief of the Taihua Road Police Station. She was given one year of forced labor two months later.

Ms. Huo was released ahead of time, only to be arrested again in April 2001 and given an unknown term of forced labor. She was taken to the Shaanxi Province Women’s Labor Camp on August 1 that year. While the police were processing paperwork with the labor camp guards, she managed to escape. One month later, she was arrested and taken to the Shaanxi Province Women’s Labor Camp in October 2001.

The Lianhu District Court sentenced Ms. Huo to five years on April 2, 2002 and she was admitted to the Shaanxi Province Women’s Prison on the same day. Her prison term began in October 2001 and concluded on September 26, 2006.

During her imprisonment, Ms. Huo was once kicked on the ribs by an inmate and she was in excruciating pain and struggled to breathe. Another time she was cuffed to a metal door for one week. She was also put in solitary confinement for four months. On another occasion, the guards instructed the inmates to strip her naked to humiliate her. The guards also used clubs to beat her. Her injuries did not heal for more than three months.

Ms. Huo finished serving time on September 26, 2006, only to be taken straight to a brainwashing center and held there for more than four months.

After another arrest on June 6, 2012, Ms. Huo was held at the Changlepo Detention Center for over two months. Her next arrest was in May 2013. She was detained for more than three months and extorted 10,000 yuan. She was seized again in 2020 and given ten days of detention, which the police chose not to enforce due to the pandemic.
