(Minghui.org) A 61-year-old Beijing woman was sentenced to one year around March 14, 2025 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Yang Jinxiang was arrested at home on June 6, 2024 by officers from the Haidian District Police Department. She made two appearances at the Haidian District Court, on November 1, 2024 and March 12, 2025. Her second hearing lasted only a few minutes. About two days later, her lawyer was notified of her wrongful conviction.
This is not the first time that Ms. Yang has been targeted for her faith. She previously served a nine-year prison term (September 2002 – September 2011) and another two-year and four-month prison term (June 2021 – October 2023). Her husband, Mr. Han Shimin, also a Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested together with her in June 2021 and later released on bail due to poor health. After he was sentenced to one year and ten months, he was constantly threatened with imprisonment. His health further declined, and he died on March 31, 2024, at the age of 59.
