(Minghui.org) A 51-year-old woman in Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, was recently taken into custody to serve a 3.5-year term she was given in 2023 for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Li Huimin, a teacher, was arrested on June 14, 2022, by police in Luoyang City, Henan Province. Three other practitioners were also arrested on the same day, including Mr. Cai Binyang, 64, of Shangyou County, Jiangxi Province; Mr. Wu Lianan, 53 of Xiamen City, Fujian Province; and Mr. Li Shihai, of Pingdu City, Shandong Province.
The Henan police claimed that the practitioners had established two chat groups on social media in February 2022 and posted information about Falun Gong there. The first group had over 700 members and the second had more than 3,000. Mr. Li was the main administrator.
The four practitioners were tried by the Chanhe Hui District Court in Luoyang on January 10, 2023. Mr. Li was later sentenced to a four-year prison term. Ms. Li was given three and a half years, but due to her severe anemia she wasn’t ordered to start serving time immediately, and was released on bail. Mr. Cai and Mr. Wu’s verdicts weren’t clear.
On September 29, 2025, Pan Fei of the Luoyang City Court, officer Zhao of the Luoyang City Domestic Security Office, and a few other officers traveled to Shanxi Province and arrested Ms. Li at home. They took her to the Luoyang City Detention Center, where she was ordered to start serving the 3.5-year term.
Prior to the arrest, Pan had called Ms. Li multiple times and ordered her to go to Luoyang for physical exams. She argued that she had already provided medical records from her local hospital and questioned why she had to repeat the physical exams in Luoyang. Pan threatened to arrest her if she didn’t comply.
Between late 2019 and 2022, at least 22 Falun Gong practitioners from three centrally-controlled municipalities (Chongqing, Beijing, and Shanghai) and nine provinces (Sichuan, Hubei, Shandong, Hebei, Zhejiang, Liaoning, Jiangxi, Fujian, and Shanxi) have been arrested by police officers from Henan Province (and especially Luoyang City) for posting information on various social media platforms that exposed the persecution of Falun Gong. Most of them have been sentenced to prison, with terms ranging from 3 to 9.5 years.
