(Minghui.org) A 54-year-old woman in Pingdu City, Shandong Province, was sentenced to one and a half years because she practices Falun Gong. She is now appealing the wrongful conviction.

Once an unforgiving person with a bad temper, Ms. Li Kunfang, born on January 13, 1971, became kinder after she took up Falun Gong. She was able to get along with her family and neighbors. Her friends and family said that Falun Gong changed her for the better. She was arrested at noon on May 12, 2025, while hanging up banners with messages about Falun Gong on them. The Yunshan Town Police Station officers raided her home and took her to the Qingdao City Detention Center (located in Pudong Town, Jimo City, which like Pingdu City is also under the administration of Qingdao).

Officer Xu Junhao submitted Ms. Li’s case to the Pingdu City Procuratorate. Her family learned on May 26, 2025, that she was issued a formal arrest warrant. She was indicted on July 10, 2025.

Judge Dou Zaiqiang of the Pingdu City Court held a hearing at the detention center on September 18, 2025. Prosecutor Li Jingyao was present. Ms. Li’s lawyer entered a not guilty plea for her. Her non-lawyer family defender also proclaimed her innocence.

Ms. Li received the verdict on October 10, 2025 and soon filed an appeal.
