(Minghui.org) When I was a chief physician at a medical center in 2006, my sister gave me a copy of Zhuan Falun. I was busy with work at the time and put the book in the living room. Several months passed, and one day my mother-in-law reminded me it was there and asked if I planned to read it.
I drove to work one morning, but had no patients, so I opened the book and began reading. I really liked it and did not stop until I finished reading all nine lectures. I was shocked because many questions I'd had in the past 30-plus years were answered clearly in the book.
When I asked my sister about the exercises mentioned in the book, she gave me a videotape. I began doing the exercises after my child went to sleep. When I did the second exercise and held my arms in front of me, I could feel something spinning between them. I asked my sister about it, and she said Master Li (the founder of Falun Dafa) was encouraging me.
When I first began to practice, not only did I repeatedly read Zhuan Falun, but I also read all of Master’s other lectures, and I remembered what I read. My health improved dramatically within three months: I was not tired when I walked up the stairs; the headache that bothered me almost every day was also gone.
My sister suggested I visit the Minghui.org website. I read the Fa teachings repeatedly, did the exercises, and read about other practitioners’ experiences. I practiced on my own. It was not until I moved to Taipei in 2010 that I joined a group study and group exercise with other practitioners. In 2012, I began participating in projects to tell people about Dafa and to expose the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution, especially the forced organ harvesting.
When I recall my experiences while working on various projects, I realize how important it is to cultivate myself solidly, look within, and let go of human notions. I’ve also come to understand that Master arranged everything well.
Telling Officials About the Persecution
Five non-government organizations (NGOs) coordinated and held the World Summit on Combating and Preventing Forced Organ in September 2021. Over 30 experts from various countries held in-depth discussions on the harm of the CCP’s forced organ harvesting.
When the event concluded, these NGOs published a joint declaration, calling for legal measures in all countries to end the atrocity of organ harvesting by forming a worldwide legislative firewall. Motivated by this declaration, a lawyer practitioner in Taiwan worked with lawyers and judges in the international society. An Act on Combating and Preventing Forced Organ Harvesting was drafted to advance the efforts in Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan.
The lawyer practitioner oversaw the overall planning with support from the rest of us practitioners. Our priority was to tell the lawmakers the facts. Each time we met with a Legislative Yuan member, we discussed and shared understandings with other practitioners and reviewed our approaches. In this way, we encouraged each other and corrected omissions. When any practitioner felt anxious for the legislation to pass soon, we reminded each other that the goal was not the legislation itself, but to help more people learn facts about the persecution.
A Path Arranged by Master
After the legislation was submitted, the lawyer practitioner arranged for us to meet the president of the Legislative Yuan. We thought this would be a regular meeting to tell him about Falun Dafa, but it turned out to be a high-level reception. In addition to the president, several Legislative Yuan members, supervisory members, and other administrative officials also attended the reception, and there was a formal photography session. During the meeting, the Legislative Yuan president listened attentively, and he was moved to tears. He supported the initiative and instructed staff members to include this in the agenda as soon as possible. The legislation passed its first reading in the Legislative Yuan.
This moved forward smoothly, but then we were told the lawyer practitioner could no longer participate. This was a heavy blow. He was familiar with the details of the provisions and was the main person responsible for coordinating this. Since most of us were not familiar with the content, we wondered if we should continue.
We reflected on this and looked within: did we rely too much on this practitioner? Did we have fear or an attachment to comfort? We also asked the president of the Taiwan Falun Dafa Association for his opinion. He said, “We can try. If it does not work, then let it be.” We felt the lawyer practitioner created a path for us to tell the facts to the Legislative Yuan members, and we should not stop; otherwise, people would not know the truth, and we would not have fulfilled our responsibility as practitioners. So we began to study the legislation article by article, and asked for help when we encountered difficulties. One of us remembered a judge in Taiwan who helped draft the legislation. He agreed to help us behind the scenes, and this was a big help.
Because it was an election year for Yuan members, the legislation needed to be re-initiated and resubmitted. At that time, I had an everyday job, and time was precious. Then, my company was reorganized, and I was able to retire early and fully devote myself to this project. After the legislation was submitted to the Legislative Yuan the second time, we did not need to visit the members for a while. I was able to return to an everyday job. My new job was flexible, and I was able to continue working on the legislation along with other Dafa projects. Looking back, I realized that as long as we placed Dafa first, Master would make arrangements for us to move forward steadily.
The Importance of Coordination
During the entire process, we could feel that Master was helping us. When we were not sure what to do next, someone would provide advice and resources and point out the direction. For example, a convener who supported us took the initiative for us to meet officials from the Judicial Yuan, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The director of a convener’s office also explained the practical pace of advancing the legislation and reminded us what else we needed to do.
At one point, a convener who was very supportive told us frankly, “Legislation requires public support. But the public voice for this issue is too small.” This was a challenge for us since few practitioners had worked on this. While we were wondering what we should do, the documentary State Organs happened to be screened in Taiwan. Other practitioners worked on press conferences to complement the legislation, and the screenings went well. They brought the organ harvesting in China to the public’s attention, and practitioners across Taiwan also helped in their own ways. As a result, more and more people learned the facts about forced organ harvesting, which addressed the convener’s concerns.
A Platform for Cultivation Practice
We always reminded ourselves that we were telling these officials the facts to help Master save them. Although it involved the social system or legal system, our fundamental goal is to tell them what is going on.
Master said,
“I told you a long time ago that a Dafa disciple, or a cultivator, has no enemies. The only thing you have a role in is saving people, and you have no role in using human means and human principles to punish or pronounce judgment on people. This is a fundamental issue!” (“Teaching the Fa in the City of Chicago”, Collected Teachings Given Around the World, Volume VII)
I understood that what was most important was not this project itself; rather, we need to make the best use of these opportunities to tell people the facts and give them a chance to be saved. While advancing this legislation, we should help people know about the CCP’s crime of organ harvesting. On the surface, we were working together with everyday people. In reality, this was an opportunity for us to improve our xinxing and tell people the facts about the persecution.
Letting Go of Human Notions
Looking back on this project, I know Master gave us many opportunities to clarify the truth and help save people. This includes our efforts to advance the legislation, the press conferences, and the screenings of State Organs. We need to act according to Falun Dafa’s principles, do our best to cooperate, maintain righteous thoughts, and not rely on others. Only by eliminating fear as well as our attachments to showing off, competing, and comfort can we truly help Master save people.
Master said,
“Whatever you do, do it well. In the process of doing things, what’s looked at is your hearts, not your success itself. In the process of doing things you can save people! Your process of doing things is also a process of you elevating in cultivation, which, at the same time, plays the role of saving sentient beings! It is not that only if you succeed in doing that thing can you play the role of saving sentient beings.” (“Fa Teaching at the 2016 New York Fa Conference”, Collected Fa Teachings, Vol. XIV)
I learned to follow Falun Dafa’s principles and have a correct understanding of our starting point. The entire process is a cultivation journey and a journey of helping save people.
Facing Challenges
The CCP has not only persecuted Falun Dafa in China, but also extended the suppression overseas in recent years. To cover this up, the regime manipulates freedom of speech and the legal system in Western countries to defame practitioners and to target our projects through lawsuits as well as infiltration. This harms practitioners and damages the free society.
If people do not know the facts, they could be taken advantage of by the CCP and even participate in the persecution. Therefore, we should focus on clarifying the truth so people will know how vicious the CCP is. This way, they will not be deceived, and there will be no loopholes. We are now preparing a joint declaration against transnational repression. By working together with those who support the upright, we can better expose the CCP and end the persecution.
I feel we should not just think about getting things done. We should cultivate well and tell people the facts in a manner that befits Dafa practitioners. When people realize we are good people, they will accept us, respect us, and agree with what we tell them.
Facing the current ordeals, I think each of us is playing a role. When we encounter people who have been misled, instead of feeling frustrated, we should cherish every opportunity. These people are waiting for us to help them. Only by following Dafa and maintaining righteous thoughts can we walk our path well. Instead of going to extremes, we should clarify the truth with compassion and wisdom. In this way, we will fulfill our prehistoric vows and help save more people.
I am grateful to Master for his arrangements and care in my cultivation journey. I also want to thank every practitioner who has quietly contributed. Let us do better and better, and walk our paths well.
