(Minghui.org) A Linyi City, Shandong Province, resident who is serving four years because she practices Falun Gong has been held in solitary confinement since August 2025 for planning to seek justice for herself.
Ms. Feng Guichun, in her 30s and an employee of the Linyi City Central Blood Bank, was arrested on August 24, 2023 and sentenced to four years on May 30, 2024. Her appeal was denied on September 30, and she was sent to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison on October 17, 2024.
Ms. Feng wrote a letter to her family on August 4, 2025 and said she intended to file a motion to the Supreme People’s Procuratorate to reconsider her case and overturn her wrongful conviction. She was told that she was not allowed to directly appeal to the highest court and must start from the lowest level of relevant government agencies. A guard surnamed Chen took her paperwork but did not tell her which department in Linyi City, Shandong Province he’d give the document to.
Ms. Feng’s family didn’t receive her letter until August 24, 2025. They inferred from the tone that she was in good spirits. When they went to the prison to visit her three days later, however, they were alarmed to see that she was emaciated, downcast, and covered in heat rash. They learned that the guards issued her a “red card” (usually reserved for inmates deemed disobedient) and they imposed restrictions on how many daily necessities she could purchase. She kept weeping but remained silent when they asked if she had been abused.
When pressed, Ms. Feng revealed that she had been forced to “study” materials that slander Falun Gong and she was given only two TV breaks each week. As soon as she said that she was only given pickled vegetables to eat, the guard monitoring their conversation reprimanded her. When she told her family that she was voted “a bad person,” the guard immediately asked her who said so. Her loved ones reminded her that other inmates had no right to discipline her or vote her a bad person. She remained silent and kept weeping.
Ms. Feng’s family later mailed her the defense statement her appeals lawyer used during her appeals trial. Even before she finished reading it, it was taken away from her. Her family reminded her to study legal knowledge to learn more about her rights but she said there were no law books in the prison.
Ms. Feng’s family visited her again on September 17, 2025 and confirmed their suspicion that her worsening physical condition and state of mind was a result of retaliation against her for intending to file a motion to reconsider her case. The typical eight-minute visit time was shortened to five minutes that day and the guard on duty warned them that they could not mention anything remotely related to Falun Gong or the visit would be ended immediately.
Ms. Feng appeared even more emaciated and silent during this visit. Her family learned that her right to write to them was revoked indirectly as the guards said she could not be given a ballpoint pen to use. She was still on a “red card” and how many daily necessities she was allowed to purchase was restricted.
Worse yet, Ms. Feng has been held in solitary confinement since August 2025 when she first brought up her intention to file a motion. This is not the first time that she was given this punishment for upholding her faith. She also spent an unknown amount of time in solitary confinement during her first few months in prison.
Ms. Feng’s family is worried about her safety, especially given the multiple deaths of jailed Falun Gong practitioners since warden Li Yanqun assumed the position in October 2023.
