Ms. Liang Yongping of Zhenyuan County, Gansu Province, died as a result of the persecution of Falun Gong on July 4, 2011.

Ms. Liang went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong shortly after the onset of the persecution in 1999. She was held in the Changqing Oilfield’s Liaison Office in Beijing and then escorted home on December 13, 1999. She was forced to pay 3,000 yuan to cover the police’s travel expense and had 1,500 yuan deducted from her pension. She was released after 50 days of detention.

Ms. Liang later moved to Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province. She was arrested there on May 18, 2004, for distributing Falun Gong materials. She was force-fed toxic drugs at a drug rehab center and unable to eat for nine days. Her family still had to pay 1,000 yuan for the “treatment.”

Ms. Liang was later given one year in the Shaanxi Province Women’s Forced Labor Camp. She was forced to make packing boxes for over 12 hours a day and still subjected to brainwashing and physical torture at night.

When she was released on May 18, 2005, the authorities deducted another 2,000 yuan from her pension.

The persecution took a toll on her health. She passed away on July 4, 2011.
