(Minghui.org) Since the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 1999, countless Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested and sentenced, and thousands of deaths have been confirmed.
In some cases, although some practitioners became seriously ill due to abuse in a detention center, they were still taken to prison to serve wrongful terms for their faith and continued to be tortured for not giving up Falun Gong. Some passed away as a result.
The select cases listed below are examples of how the Jinzhou City Women’s Detention Center worked with the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison to persecute practitioners.
Dozen of practitioners are currently being held in the Jinzhou Women’s Detention Center, and some are struggling with severe physical issues due to the persecution. For example, Ms. Zhou Lina failed the physical exam and had a low platelet count, but the detention center still admitted her.

Ms. Li was extremely weak the day she arrived because she had been on a hunger strike and been force-fed since her arrest. Her trial was held on the morning of January 21, 2019, in the detention center. A judge from the Taihe District Court presided. She was too weak to speak during the hearing. Ms. Wang Yanqiu was incarcerated in Liaoning Province Women’s Prison after she was arrested in July 23, 2013, with two other practitioners, Ms. Zhou Yuzhen and Ms. Qu Wei (who has since died). They were apprehended for distributing Shen Yun Performing Arts DVDs that contain programs that depict the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong. She was once in critical condition due to torture in the Jinzhou Women’s Detention Center.
Ms. Wang and Ms. Zhou were tried on December 12, 2013. Ms. Wang’s lawyer pleaded not guilty on her behalf. Both women were sentenced to four years in January 2014.
Because Ms. Wang had hypertension, blood clots in her brain, severe anemia, and a spinal issue, the prison initially refused to admit her, but the director of the detention center was later forced to take her.
Ms. Wang fell into a coma in June 2017, a month before her scheduled release. She regained consciousness ten days later. Her family took her home on July 25, and she died five months later on December 29. She was 56.
