Mr. Shi Long, of Dalian City, Liaoning Province, died on October 15, 2012.
Mr. Shi went to Beijing to appeal shortly after the persecution started in 1999 and was arrested. After he managed to escape from custody, the police arrested his wife and son. Not wanting his family to be implicated, Mr. Shi turned himself in. When his family visited him at the detention center in 2000, he was disfigured from torture.
Mr. Shi was arrested again on September 27, 2002, and held at the Yaojia Detention Center for 15 days. Police officer Zhou Xiaofeng extorted 1,000 yuan from his family.
For the next decade, the police treated Mr. Shi as a key persecution target and arrested him on a regular basis, often followed by a two-week detention.
Mr. Shi once lost consciousness after being beaten by the police and was left lying on the concrete ground overnight. Another time, when he was released after a few months of detention and torture, he was emaciated and his hands shook involuntarily.
Succumbing to the ongoing detention and torture, Shi Long died on October 15, 2012.
