(Minghui.org) Almedalsveckan, also known as Almedalen Week, was held on June 25-28, 2024 in Visby, on the island of Gotland, Sweden.

Almedalen Week is an annual political event, and over the years it’s become a major gathering for Swedish politicians, offering opportunities for public debate. It is known for its open and accessible format, allowing for direct interaction between politicians, experts, and citizens.

Local practitioners also participated in this event. During their various activities at Donners Plats they introduced Falun Gong and exposed the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution during seminars on CCP issues.

Practitioners talked with several Swedish Members of Parliament (MPs), telling them about the persecution of Falun Gong and gaining increasing attention and support from Swedish politicians and the public.

After learning about Falun Gong and attending the seminar on the CCP, Swedish MP Nima Gholam Ali Pour said he would share the information with his colleagues to increase awareness.

MP David Josefsson expressed his long-standing support for human rights in China and the freedom of Hong Kong citizens. He voiced his strong support for the demands of Falun Gong practitioners.

Another MP, Camilla Brodin, said she was aware of the persecution of Falun Gong and Christians in China, and said she knew about the CCP’s long history of suppressing traditional beliefs. She expressed her gratitude and admiration for practitioners’ efforts to spread the truth.

MP Shows Support in Person

Swedish MP Lotta Johnsson Fornarve attended the event and delivered a speech supporting Falun Gong.

Swedish MP and former Deputy Speaker Lotta Johnsson Fornarve attended the event on the afternoon of June 27 to support Falun Gong, and delivered a speech.

She urged people to pay more attention to human rights issues in China. She condemned the CCP’s 25-year-long persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and the brutal practice of live organ harvesting.

She said, “In 2019, an independent tribunal in the UK concluded that forced organ harvesting has been carried out in China for years on a significant scale, with Falun Gong practitioners being the main source of organs. The tribunal also found that the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China constitutes crimes against humanity.”

Calling for Sweden to Take Action

Lotta Johnsson Fornarve MP said she respected the practitioners’ courage in exposing the CCP’s persecution. She highlighted the need for more voices to address human rights issues in China.

“The global response to human rights crimes in China is insufficient. I believe Sweden must take stronger actions through the EU and the United Nations to pressure the CCP into respecting human rights. If the CCP does not comply, we must consider stronger measures, such as sanctions,” she said.

In conclusion, she called for the unconditional release of all imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners and other prisoners of conscience.
