(Minghui.org) Victoria Day, a Canadian holiday that honors Queen Victoria, was celebrated this year on Monday, May 20. Industry, culture, politics, science, and the military flourished in Britain during her reign and that period of time is now referred to as the “Victorian Era.”

Celebrations are held across Canada to commemorate the role Queen Victoria played in the Canadian Confederation every year on Victoria Day, but the celebrations are the grandest in the City of Victoria, the capital of British Columbia.

People Learn Falun Gong Outside the Parliament Building

The day before the celebration, May 19, 2024, Falun Gong practitioners did the exercises together on the lawn outside the Victoria Parliament Building.

The peaceful exercise demonstration and soothing music attracted the attention of many people who gathered around. Some said, “They look really good in their yellow outfits.” And some asked, “What are they doing?” “Can we join them?”

Many people started to learn the Falun Gong exercises.

People asked practitioners about Falun Gong (also called Falun Dafa) and where they could find a local practice site.

Practitioners introduce the practice to passersby.

Victoria Day Parade

The 124th Victoria Day Parade began in Victoria at 9 a.m. on May 20. More than 3,300 marchers and about 70,000 spectators attended the grand ceremony, listening to the loud drums and blaring horns. Falun Gong practitioners from British Columbia participated in the parade with the Tian Guo Marching Band, a decorated float, waist drum performance, and Falun Gong exercise demonstration.

Heath Mortime is a maintenance manager in Victoria, said after seeing the Falun Gong procession, “This makes me happy. There is the marching band, the Falun Dafa exercises are great, impressive, and I like the [waist] drum team.”

Wayne brought his two daughters to watch the parade. He said he enjoyed the Falun Gong procession and that Truthfulness Compassion and Forbearance are very good principles. “I think it’s good that they celebrate. They should be free to celebrate whatever faith or religion they believe in.”

“I feel great. This makes me feel better,” retired government official Terry said, holding up a small lotus flower pendant. “This lotus flower can bring us energy and good luck.”

Sandy asked how to pronounce Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in Chinese. After learning the correct pronunciations, the three ladies repeated them over and over until everyone could finally pronounce them. They all cheered.

Tiana commented, “We just saw our former neighbor in the Falun Dafa team. We always enjoy having them come because they are always so happy and so enthusiastic about what they do.”
