(Minghui.org) Ms. Chen Huiying, a Mian County, Shaanxi Province resident in her 80s was released on February 21, 2024, after serving one year for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Chen was arrested in Changshu City, Jiangsu Province in the fall of 2021 for talking to people about Falun Gong. It’s not clear whether she specifically traveled to Changshu, nearly 1,000 miles from Mian County, to raise awareness about the persecution, or whether she went there for another reason. Officers from the Shanghu Police Station in Changshu collected her personal information and released her.

Ms. Chen was arrested again in 2022 by officers from her local Qinchuan Police Station in Shaanxi Province. Her Falun Gong books, informational materials (about Falun Gong) and laptop were confiscated. She was released the next day.

Ms. Chen stood trial in the fall of 2022 and was sentenced to one year. She was admitted to the Zhenjiang City Women’s Prison in Jiangsu Province on February 20, 2023. It’s not clear whether she was sentenced by a court in Shaanxi Province or Jiangsu Province. It’s also unknown whether her sentencing is related to her arrest in 2021 in Changshu.

The day Ms. Chen was released from prison, February 21, 2024, she was taken back to Mian County by officers Ma, Han, and Tian of the Mian County Legal Affairs Office.
