(Minghui.org) Mr. Yu Faquan, 68, from Qianwei County, Sichuan Province, was sentenced to four years on December 12, 2023 for practicing Falun Gong. Mr. Yu was taken back into custody on March 4, 2024 after his appeal was rejected. It’s not clear where he is currently detained.

Mr. Yu was arrested at his home around 7:30 p.m. on March 3, 2023 by four police officers and two residential committee staffers. His Falun Gong books, printer, laptop and other personal belongings were confiscated. Around the same time, two other local practitioners, Ms. Fan Huiying, 68, and Ms. Wang Yufu, 77, were also arrested. All three of them were taken to the Qianwei County Police Department and held for 24 hours, before being released.

The police continued to monitor the three practitioners’ daily lives and submitted their cases to the procuratorate. The practitioners appeared in the Qianwei County Court on December 12, 2023 and were convicted: Mr. Yu was given four years and fined 5,000 yuan; Ms. Fan was sentenced to one year with two years probation and fined 2,000 yuan; Ms. Wang was sentenced to one year and fined 2,000 yuan. Ms. Wang was allowed to serve time outside of prison.

Mr. Yu appealed the sentence with the intermediate court, which ruled to uphold his original verdict. He was taken back into custody on March 4, 2024. But the authorities refuse to tell his family where he is detained.

This isn’t the first time that Mr. Yu has been targeted for practicing Falun Gong, which he credits for enabling him to stand up again after being bedridden for years. He previously served two labor camp terms, including a term of more than three years. He was arrested again on August 10, 2011 and later sentenced to 7.5 years.
