(Minghui.org) Five women from Qingyunpu District, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province were arrested on October 9, 2024 and held at a brainwashing center for ten days in October 2024. They were ordered to renounce their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Xiao Genxiang, 74, was arrested at home. The police confiscated her Falun Gong books, thousands of yuan in cash, computer, music player, and other valuables. After ten days at the brainwashing center, she lost 26 pounds. Prior to her latest persecution, Ms. Xiao was given two forced labor terms for a total of four years and nine months. She was brutally tortured during her labor camp detentions and suffered leg and hand injuries as a result. She still has injury marks on her body today.
Ms. Xu Julian, 67, and Ms. Qiu Deying, 64, were arrested near a local maternal and children’s hospital while the duo were using a device to send text messages bearing Falun Gong information to cell phone users. The arresting officers took them to their respective homes for home raids. Ms. Xu’s neighbor urged the police to release her as she had high blood pressure, but the officers ignored him.
Ms. Shi Xiurong, 71, was released after midnight, only to be taken back into custody hours later. Ms. Zhang Xianmei, also 71, had her home ransacked during her arrest.
The five women were all taken to a local brainwashing center and pressured to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong. They were released on October 18, 2024.
