Minghui.org previously covered the in-custody death of Ms. Gu Jinfen in a 2023 summary report. This article provides additional information about her abuse in prison.
Ms. Gu, a 66-year-old resident of Yanji City, Jilin Province, was arrested in April 2023, after being reported for exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong. While the arresting officers from the Beishan Street Police Station soon released her on bail, they still submitted her case to the local procuratorate.
A prosecutor visited Ms. Gu not long after and informed her that she had been indicted. She went into hiding to avoid being taken back into custody. She later returned home and was arrested. The local court soon sentenced her to prison. As her family wasn’t notified of her case status, they still don’t know even today what her exact prison term was.
Ms. Gu was admitted to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison (located in the capital city of Changchun) and assigned to Cell 11 of Division 8. In order to “deal with” her, captain Gao Yang moved inmate Li Lingling, who practiced martial arts before, from Division 7 to Division 8 and named her the head inmate of Cell 11.
Li followed Gao’s instructions and frequently beat Ms. Gu. The torture did not stop even after she became incontinent. Inmates in nearby cells could hear the abusers yelling at her every day. Ms. Gu died on October 1, 2023. The guards carried her body away in the middle of the night to try to cover up their crimes.
