(Minghui.org) The Minghui.org website recently confirmed that a Chongqing resident was sentenced to a 4.5-year prison term around September 2023 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Chen Changlan, around 69, was arrested at home on September 16, 2022 by officers from the Jiulongpo Police Department. When her family went to the Jiulongpo District Lockup to deliver clothing to her on September 23, the guard said that she wasn’t there. Her family went to the Jiulongpo District Detention Center, and couldn’t find her there either. They also went to the police department, still to no avail.

Ms. Chen’s family later confirmed that she was indeed being held at the Jiulongpo District Detention Center and she had secretly been sentenced to 4.5 years by the Jiulongpo District Court around September 2023. She is currently being held at the Chongqing Women’s Prison in Jiulongpo District. Other details about her case aren’t clear.

Past Persecution

Ms. Chen took up Falun Gong in 2004. In the past 20 years, she has served one labor camp term and two prison terms, totaling 7.5 years, prior to her latest sentence.

Ms. Chen was arrested on November 6, 2004 for distributing Falun Gong informational materials at a dam in Jiangjin City (which is now the Jiangjin District in Chongqing). She was held at the Langshan Detention Center and given 1.5 years of forced labor on November 19 in the same year.

Ms. Chen was arrested again in April 2010 for talking to people about Falun Gong. The police raided her home and confiscated personal belongings valued at over 10,000 yuan. She was held at the Jiangjin Detention Center and later sentenced to 3.5 years by the Jiangjin District Court. She became extremely weak and emaciated due to relentless torture in Chongqing Women’s Prison.

Her next arrest was on June 23, 2015, also for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was detained at the Huayan Detention Center. The Jiulongpo District Court sentenced her to 2.5 years on December 8, 2015.

Officers from the Huayan Police Station and Min’anhuafu Residential Committee continued to harass Ms. Chen after she was released. She was harassed at home four times in 2020 alone.
