(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 11 cities or counties in 6 provinces, where at least 13 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Pingjiang County, Hunan Province] Ms. Tang Gemei Officially Arrested

Ms. Tang Gemei, a retired employee of the Dajiangdong Power Station of Pingjiang County Power Generation Company, was caught on surveillance cameras distributing Falun Gong materials in the county government office building. She was arrested on July 4, 2023, and held in the Yunxi Detention Center of Yueyang City. The Pingjiang County Procuratorate issued an arrest notice on July 20.

2. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wu Jiying Arrested

Ms. Wu Jiying, in her 50s, from Sanshilipu Sub-district, was abducted by four police officers on the afternoon of August 13, 2023, in Beile Great Market where she operated a business.

3. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Wang Guofen Detained

Ms. Wang Guofen from Jiutai District was arrested by three officers from the Tuanjie Police Station who were staked out near her home, when she stepped out to buy breakfast at 5 a.m. on July 21, 2023. Ms. Wang was taken to the Jiutai District Police Department. The officers searched her bag and confiscated a laptop computer, three Falun Gong books, and two cards with information about Falun Gong. That afternoon, she was fingerprinted, foot-printed, photographed, and forced to submit to a medical exam. She was then taken to the Changchun City Detention Center.

When Ms. Wang arrived at the detention center, she was given another physical exam. Her blood pressure was high. The detention center said she would have to go to Changchun City for a physical exam. The Jiutai Police Station officers took her back to the Jiutai District Police Department, where she was held overnight. The next day they took her to Jiutai Hospital for yet another physical exam. Her blood pressure was still high, and she was again taken to the detention center. Ms. Wang refused to cooperate with the officers, so they beat her. She was in so much pain that she could not turn over in bed. Ms. Wang was detained for 15 days.

4. [Zibo City, Shandong Province] Ms. Ding Yufang and Ms. Zhang Kezhen Harassed

Ms. Ding Yufang from Shuangyang Town, Zichuan District, was reported to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong in a store. On August 1, 2023, officers from the Shuangyang Town Police Station went to the store to look for her and asked her to go to the police station. Ms. Ding arrived at the police station at 10:30 a.m. and returned home after 5 p.m. that day. The officers broke into her home when no one was there, and confiscated a photo of the founder of Falun Gong. They have not returned the photo.

Ms. Zhang Kezhen from Fujia Town, Zibo Economic Development Zone, was reported to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong on May 12, 2023. On May 24, five or six officers from the Fujia Town Police Station broke into Ms. Zhang’s home and ransacked the place. They confiscated her Falun Gong books and photos of the founder of Falun Gong. Ms. Zhang was taken to the police station but returned home two hours later.

5. [Jingzhou City, Hubei Province] Ms. Han Chengli Arrested

Ms. Han Chengli from Shashi District was arrested in early July 2023, for distributing Falun Gong materials. Further details are pending.

6. [Dehui City, Jilin Province] Mr. He Yongping and Ms. Wang Yafang Arrested

Mr. He Yongping and Ms. Wang Yafang were arrested when they went out to talk to people about Falun Gong on August 12, 2023. Further details are pending.

7. [Huludao City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Gao Shufen and Family Harassed

Officers from the Zhennan Police Station in Jianchang County, called the Bajiazi Police Department on August 2, 2023 and told them to find Ms. Gao Shufen and have her sign the three statements renouncing Falun Gong. The police department called Ms. Gao’s child and harassed her. Ms. Gao was in the hospital at the time.

On August 4, team lead Wang Shuai from the Zhennan Police Station, the deputy chief of the Bajiazi Police Department, and others went to the hospital and told Ms. Gao that her case would be turned over to the Lianshan District Procuratorate and Court, and asked her to sign the three statements. They said that if she refused to sign, her family could sign on her behalf. Her family refused to sign anything.

On August 11, Long Dan and others from the Lianshan District Procuratorate went to Ms. Gao’s home to question her. They took notes. Ms. Gao was bed-ridden, not fully conscious, and could not speak. They told her to write the three statements and told her family to cooperate. They threatened to send her to a psychiatric hospital if she did not sign the statements.

8. [Fuzhou City, Fujian Province] The Case Against Lai Dongping Turned Over to the Procuratorate

Lai Dongping’s case has been turned over to the Procuratorate.

9. [Liaocheng City, Shandong Province] Liu Shangrong Arrested

Officers from the Guangping Township Police Station broke into Liu Shangrong’s home and arrested Liu on August 11, 2023. His or her whereabouts are unknown.

10. [Tianjin] Ms. Gao Chunping Arrested

Local police told Ms. Gao Chunping from the Ninghe District to go to the police station to sign paperwork, and said that her case would then be closed. Ms. Gao believed them. When she arrived at the police station, she was immediately taken to the Ninghe County Detention Center.
