Additional Persecution News from China – July 19, 2023 (10 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 10 cities or counties in 6 provinces, where at least 13 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Shenze County, Hebei Province] Mr. Peng Jingjun Sentenced

Mr. Peng Jingjun was reported when he distributed Falun Gong flyers. The Chengqu Police Department submitted his case to the Jinzhou City Procuratorate. The latter submitted it to the Jinzhou City Court. The court heard his case on April 14, 2023. Although his attorney defended his innocence, he was sentenced to three years in prison and was fined 5,000 yuan. He appealed to the Shijiazhuang City Intermediate Court. The appeals court affirmed the lower court's decision. He was imprisoned in the Tangshan Prison on July 18, 2023.

2. [Fengcheng City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhou Chunling Faces Indictment

Ms. Zhou Chunling, from Fengcheng, was arrested in Fengcheng by officers from the Shandong Province Guan County Domestic Security Division in June 2022. She managed to escape and hide as she moved from place to place. Police from Guan County searched for her and finally arrested her in Dandong City, Liaoning Province on July 12, 2023. They took her to Guan County, Shandong Province.

She was given seven days’ criminal detention and is being held in the Liaocheng City Detention Center in Shandong Province. Her case will be submitted to the procuratorate.

3. [Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Chen Shuiqing Faces Trial

Ms. Chen Shuiqing was arrested by Chikan District police in February 2023. She is being held in the Zhanjiang City Detention Center. The Chikan District Court scheduled her hearing for August 13, 2023.

4. [Jiaohe City, Jilin Province] Ms. Zhao Hongyan Imprisoned

Ms. Zhao Hongyan was put on criminal detention for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong on September 14, 2021. Her arrest was approved 12 days later. She was released on bail because of her severe heart disease.

Officers from the Minzhu Street Police Station went to her home in early July 2022. They told her that she was sentenced to three years in prison and took her to a hospital for a prison entry physical exam. The result showed she had severe heart disease. She was released and was granted medical parole.

The officers went to her home after 10:00 a.m. on July 14, 2023 and took her to Jilin City for a physical exam. They said that she no longer qualified for medical parole and took her directly to the Jilin City Detention Center.

5. [Xianning City, Hubei Province] Chen Jianping Arrested

Chen Jianping, gender unknown, who lives in Wenquan area, was arrested at home by local police a week ago.

6. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Zheng Bin Disappeared

Zheng Bin, gender unknown, disappeared. Zheng was being stalked and under surveillance after shopping in Xinsheng Computer City on July 5, 2023.

7. [Shanghai] Ms. Zhou Changxia Arrested

Ms. Zhou Changxia, in her 70s, has repeatedly been arrested for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was detained even when her husband was critically ill. She was arrested again on July 2, 2023.

8. [Liaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Yuan Jingxiu Arrested

Ms. Yuan Jingxiu, 54, was arrested by Gongchangling Police on June 26, 2023 when she was working in her office in the Liaoyang City Electrical Design Company. Her family called her and heard her say only one sentence, “I am in a small dark room in an unknown place.” That was the last time anyone heard from her.

9. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wang Xue and Ms. Zou Anping Arrested

Ms. Wang Xue, in her 50s, and Ms. Zou Anping, in her 70s, talked to people about the persecution of Falun Gong in Rentun Village, Wawo Town on the morning of July 17, 2023. They were arrested by officers from the Yuantai Police Station after someone reported them. They are being held in the police station.

10. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Liang Jun Detained

Liang Jun, gender unknown, was arrested in Funing’s Wangtaizhuang Open Market on the morning of July 14, 2023 for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. Liang’s car was towed away. Liang is being held in the Police Hospital. Officers from the Funing County and the Qinhuangdao Harbor Police Department ransacked Liang’s home at noon the same day, seized two notebook computers, Falun Gong books and materials, and other belongings.

Ms. Gong Junmei went to Liang’s home around 1 p.m. on July 14 and was arrested. She was taken to the Harbor Police Department. Officers ransacked her home and seized a picture of Falun Gong’s founder, Falun Gong books, and other belongings. She was released around 10 p.m. for health reasons.

Ms. Yu Shuyun was also implicated. Her home was ransacked. Her Falun Gong books and other belongings were confiscated.
