The Choices Four Company Presidents Made

(Minghui.org) I graduated from the university in 1995 and began to work for a government-run agency. I worked for four company presidents. Faced with the choice of pursuing fame and self-interest, being kind or going along with the persecution, the decisions they made about Falun Dafa determined their future.

First President

In 1996, the wife of a deputy president, who was also my company's accountant, was an assistant in our Falun Dafa Assistance Center. I decided to practice Falun Dafa.

Many people practiced Falun Dafa at that time, including some of my coworkers. From the city to the countryside, there were many Falun Dafa practice sites. You could hear the exercise music everywhere in the mornings – in the courtyards, along the streets, in the parks, and at the square.

A colleague’s mother suffered from a herniated disc in her lower back for many years. She had difficulty walking, and couldn’t do any household chores. When she noticed her neighbor, who had the same condition, recovered after practicing Dafa, she had her son take her on his bicycle to the practice site. That day, after she learned the exercises, before her son returned to take her home, she walked back by herself.

When her husband came home from work that night, she excitedly told him that she felt great. She said, “I walked home all by myself today. Now, I am going to prepare dinner.” Her husband said Falun Dafa was truly amazing.

I've experienced many miraculous things since then. I lived in my company’s dorm at the time, and it was extremely windy at night. There was a tower crane outside our building. The strong wind broke the upper section, and it crashed into the dorm. I usually didn’t need to use the toilet at night, but that night I got up. When I came back and saw the broken glass and felt the cold wind blowing through the broken window near my bed, I was shocked. I could have been severely injured had I still been in bed when the accident happened.

After telling my father about this incident, he also began to practice. He said that I was blessed because I practiced Dafa.

I held myself to the standards of a Dafa practitioner, been a good person, and got along well with my coworkers. One time, the sink in our office was clogged. I removed the pipe, and cleared out the hair and other debris. The sink began to drain again. I didn’t tell anyone that I fixed it, until I unintentionally mentioned it to my director. He said he remembered it was blocked and was about to get someone to fix it, but then noticed it was fine. He never thought that it was me who fixed it.

One family was renovating their home in the dorm where I lived, making the hallway very dirty, but the building management didn’t look into it. I began to clean the dust – floor by floor. It was summer and so hot that I was soaked with sweat. When my neighbor came home and saw me cleaning, she was surprised and said, “I thought the management office staff was the cleaning the dust.”

After a few days, I cleaned the hallway again. When the woman from the second floor saw that I was mopping the floor in front of her unit, she thanked me, saying, “Thank you! We have to learn from you.”

On July 20, 1999, the former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Jiang Zemin instigated the persecution of Falun Dafa. The company’s president’s wife also practiced Dafa, and the president didn’t say anything negative about Falun Dafa, nor were practitioners in my company subjected to any form of persecution. This brought him good fortune. He retired in 2000 and has led a good life since then. His son moved to the U.S. years ago.

Second President

After the first president retired, the next president was brought in from another company. His mother practiced Falun Dafa and she persuaded me to return to cultivation.

The persecution was severe, but the new president never came to talk to me about renouncing Falun Dafa. Whenever it was a CCP sensitive date, the company's CCP Committee Secretary talked to me. I took the opportunity to clarify the facts to him, and after he learned the truth, every time his supervisors came to see how he was doing, he always managed to take them elsewhere. He reminded me to be careful, and said there were meetings in the company about Falun Dafa. Sometimes, I mailed truth-clarification letters to the people attending the meetings.

After I finished reading the Fa one afternoon in June 2014, and went out with other practitioners to clarify the facts, I was reported to the authorities and was arrested. People from the 610 Office intended to hold me for seven days, but they confiscated 1,000 yuan from me instead, and I returned home at midnight.

The president came to me the next day, and said, “You are doing well in every aspect, only on this matter is there a concern.”

I replied, “President, I heard that your mother also practices Falun Dafa, so I assume you have some understanding about Dafa.”

“Falun Dafa has amazing effects in healing illness and keeping fit,” he responded. “My mother has been healthy since she began practicing. However, you are a government official. An official is not allowed to practice Dafa. The police have put this in your file, which will likely impact you and your family. When the official from the 610 Office comes tomorrow, you will have to talk to him and write a guarantee statement.”

I said, “Dafa has given me good health, and Dafa's founder, Master Li, requires us to follow Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, which is the characteristic of the universe. If every one of us followed these principles then human moral values would elevate. You know that Falun Dafa is legal in China.

“The ‘self-immolation incident on Tiananmen Square’ was staged. Its purpose was to frame Dafa. What the 610 Office carries out is Jiang Zemin’s persecution policy. The persecutors are the ones who are truly breaking the law. Practitioners clarify the facts to save people, which is a kind deed. Now you ask me to give up cultivation and be "transformed." Do you really want me to change from being an honest, kind and tolerant person to a fake, evil one who does not get along with others? I don't think this is what you want.”

The 610 Office planned to come to my company the next day, but when the president realized that it was impossible to “transform” me, he didn’t call me over to meet with them, and dealt with them on his own. Later, I heard from the deputy president that the president went to great effort to contact people in power, and he talked to the police chief. 

The following year, he was reported because of financial problems, and was taken away by the Municipal Commission for disciplinary investigation. In the end, nothing was uncovered, and he was only given a minor punishment. It could have been a very bad situation for him, but he received a surprise benefit because he protected and treated a practitioner kindly. 

Third President

The third president came to us from another city in 2017. He was a divisional manager before and I had already given him an app (application) to break through the CCP's Internet blockade during a previous visit to our company. So he knew that I practiced Falun Dafa. After he assumed the job of president, when he had time, I talked to him about Dafa. He told me that he often received emails with information related to Falun Dafa. He still had the app that I gave him.

In the spring of 2021, the local police teamed up with people from the Political and Legal Affairs Committee and used the excuse that I mailed a postcard to the police chief, to forcefully search my home and arrest me. I was held at the police station for one day, before someone from my company came to get me.

On the day of my arrest, this president used his connections to help me.

Other companies in the province held a meeting and, to protect himself, the provincial leader wanted to fire me in 2021. But, the president spoke well about me, saying that my work was outstanding, I could handle complicated issues on my own, and they couldn’t do without me. In the end, the provincial leader changed his mind and told the president to try to protect me.

The president informed me of the provincial leader’s decision, and said, “The province will protect you. However, because of this matter, our company will have to give you a minor disciplinary action at work. Rest assured that it won’t really affect you.” I agreed immediately.

After thinking about it later, I wasn’t comfortable with the situation. So I sent him a text message, saying, “Hello president! I truly appreciate the heart-to-heart talk you had with me this afternoon. As to the disciplinary action, I understand that you have your difficulties, but if you think about it, gods are watching us. Your kind and righteous actions will bring you good fortune for sure. I truly appreciate what you have done for me all along!”

The disciplinary action went nowhere in the end.

This president stayed with the company for nearly four years. In May 2021, he was transferred to another city where he has better opportunities to expand his career. This was the blessing he received for protecting a practitioner.

Fourth President

The fourth president was also brought in from another city. He was in his 40s and younger than his predecessors. As the new leader he strove to have achievements under his belt. Through running all kinds of activities, he aimed to have our company earn the title of “Provincial-level Civilized Company.” As among the 10-plus prefecture level cities in the province, only three companies hadn’t earned this title.

The third president also wanted that title when he was in office, but there was a stipulation that marks would be deducted if there were any Falun Dafa practitioners working in the company, so he didn’t actively go for it, as he probably didn’t want to give me trouble.

To earn this title the Civilized Office states that the company shouldn’t have employees practicing Falun Dafa. This put the new president in a difficult situation, thus, he came to find me for a talk.

I said to him, “Although people can put in their effort, it’s up to Heaven to make things happen. You just go ahead and do what you need to do.”

“I have no other choice,” he replied. “There are only two ways to go. You sign the guarantee statement, or we’ll have to let you go.”

I said, “If I were to sign to give up cultivation, it would not be good for you. As the saying goes, ‘Giving a monk a mouthful of food is a matter of great merit.’ If you have a correct understanding about Dafa, and safeguard kindness, then you’ll be blessed. If it’s our turn to have the title, then we’ll get it!”

When he saw that he couldn’t convince me, he held a divisional managers’ meeting, to have everyone weigh in on whether I should sign the statement, or to dismiss me from work. None of the managers agreed to let me go. Thus, the president asked them to take turns talking to me to persuade me to write the guarantee statement.

I decided to resign before anyone talked to me. During the management meeting, I said, “Falun Dafa is the Buddha Law. Practitioners clarify the facts to help save people. Master Li Hongzhi told us that we should put others first when doing things. Under the COVID pandemic, only by having kind thoughts, can one escape it. Amid the danger, everyone please remember the phrases ‘Falun Dafa is good!’ ‘Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!’”

Some of the deputy presidents quietly wiped away tears. They were amazed that I, who had a senior title and had only three or two years left before retirement, could make such a decision.

After I submitted my letter of resignation, many female colleagues hugged me and cried. They tried to keep me at the company and kept talking to me. After I returned home, I understood that my resigning was giving in to the evil, and could harm my employers, so I decided to cancel my resignation.

I decided go to work in an upright manner, because no law in China states that it's illegal to practice Falun Dafa.

So I texted a message to the president, saying: “Hello, president! I solemnly declare that the resignation letter I submitted is null and void. Everything I have done was to defend my legal rights as a citizen and uphold universal values, without violating any national laws. That is why I cannot leave this way. I chose to resign because I felt that I was forced to do so. You used a lot of people to try to persuade me, but in reality, it was attacking goodness and aiding evil. To put it more seriously, it is a violation of Articles 35 and 36 of the Constitution. The most important thing is that by treating Dafa practitioners kindly, one will receive good fortune; whereas persecuting practitioners, one would incur karmic retribution. You are the key person in my case. I have full trust in you.”

I then went to see him in person to tell him that I would not resign.

The deputy president later told me that after applying a few times, they were finally granted the title of “Provincial-level Civilized Company.” It may be attributable to the fact that the president understood Falun Dafa. Everyone was full of joy after receiving the title.
