(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Yonghong who lives in Yichang City, Hubei Province was taken to a brainwashing center less than two weeks after she finished serving a seven-year prison term in April 2023 for practicing Falun Gong. She is still detained at the time of this report.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Officers from the Pinghu Domestic Security Office in Xiling District, including Zhou Xiangdong, seized Ms. Zhang and her brother Mr. Zhang Yongsheng from their respective homes in the Gezhouba Subdistrict, Xiling District on the morning of April 19, 2016.
Ms. Zhang’s computer, printer, bankbook, Falun Gong books, and hundreds of thousands of yuan in cash were confiscated. One of Mr. Zhang’s cars was impounded. No list of confiscated items was given to them as required by law.
That afternoon, another group of officers from the Pinghu Domestic Security Office, including Xu Hong, arrested delivery worker Mr. Yang Weijun, while he was on his way to work. The police raided his home at 9 p.m. and confiscated his computer, Falun Gong books, bankbook, and more than 10,000 yuan in cash.
Ms. Xu Qiaoling who lives in the Gezhouba Subdistrict was also arrested that day, but the details of her arrest are not clear.
The four practitioners were taken to the Yichang City First Detention Center. Officer Zhou beat Ms. Zhang so hard during the interrogation that he broke her leg. She immediately passed out from the pain. Zhou called in an ambulance to rush her to the hospital. After she regained consciousness, two people brought her back to the detention center.
The Gezhouba Procuratorate indicted the four practitioners and the Gezhouba Court tried them in November 2017. All of them were sentenced to prison. Ms. Zhang was given seven years, Mr. Zhang and Mr. Yang were each three and a half years, and Ms. Xu was given two and a half years.
Ms. Zhang was released in April 2023, only to be arrested two weeks later. She was taken to a local brainwashing center, where she remains today.
Officer Zhou has been actively persecuting local practitioners since the persecution began in 1999. He persecuted at least 40 practitioners, and beat and/or verbally abused many of them.
