Additional Persecution News from China – May 29, 2023 (15 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 14 cities or counties in 8 provinces, where at least 38 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Guan Xiaofen Sentenced to Three Years and Six Months in Prison

Ms. Guan Xiaofen from Acheng District was previously arrested by officers from the Yagou Police Station on April 1, 2022, and was released on bail due to the COVID pandemic. She was arrested again at her rented house on March 31, 2023. She was sentenced to three years and six months in prison in May 2023.

2. [Tianjin] Mr. Huang Liqiao Faces Trial

Mr. Huang Liqiao was arrested on October 4, 2022. He is being held in the Hedong District Detention Center. His case was brought to Hedong District Court. He was tried via video link on February 7, 2023. Mr. Huang shouted “This is a case of injustice!” The trial was called off. The judge notified his lawyer that the trial was rescheduled to May 31.

3. [Zaoyang City, Hubei Province] Mr. Wang Qunbo Arrested

Mr. Wang Qunbo, about 42, from Sanwang Village, Juwan Town, was arrested around May 24, 2023.

4. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Guo Xuhong Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

Li Zhijie, Liu Chunjie, and Ms. Meng Qingxia were arrested on April 21 and 22, 2023, by officers from the Faku County Domestic Security Division and the Shiqiao Police Station. Li Zhijie returned home on May 24. Liu Chunjie and Meng Qingxia’s cases were turned over to the procuratorate, and they were officially placed under arrest.

Ms. Guo Xuhong was sentenced to three years in prison. After she appealed, the Shenyang Intermediate Court upheld the original sentence.

Bai Guifu and Fu Yanling have completed their sentences and returned home.

5. [Jinchang City, Gansu Province] Ms. Zhu Lanxiu Arrested

Ms. Zhu Lanxiu was monitored and followed for a long time after she talked to people about Falun Gong. Those who staked out and followed her did not identify themselves.

On the afternoon of March 24, 2023, Ms. Zhu returned home after visiting her hospitalized husband. When she was going up the stairs to her home, a group of people grabbed her and broke into her home. Without showing any ID cards or paperwork, they ransacked the place. Ms. Zhu was taken to the Kuangshan Road Police Station for interrogation and forcibly photographed. After two hours of interrogation, they took Ms. Zhu home and grabbed 1,000 yuan in cash from her home.

6. [Beijing] Ms. Huang Miaoying Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Huang Miaoying, 71, from Dewai Sub-district, Xicheng District, was arrested by officers from the Shahe Police Station in Changping District on February 24, 2019. She was released on bail for one year that day.

On November 6, 2020, Changping District Court tried her. On May 23, 2023, she was sentenced to one year and six months in prison by the court and fined 2,000 yuan.

7. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Fifteen Practitioners Held in Detention Center

The Shijiazhuang City No. 2 Detention Center has been one of main facilities where local practitioners have been detained and brutally persecuted since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999. Over the past 24 years, detention center officials have resorted to various methods to torture and persecute practitioners. Fifteen female practitioners are still being held there.

Among them, seven are from Shijiazhuang City: Wang Bingcheng, Liu Peng, Liang Yening, Pu Xingchi, Liu Shunzhi, Hu Yuexia (over 60 years old), Wu Xiumian (73); seven are from Shenze County: He Hongyan, Liu Xiaomiao (76), Liu Yuru, Jiao Yaqin, Ma Tongxin (79), Tian Xuan, Yuan Wenge (77); and one from Xinji City: Wang Guili (74).

8. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Ms. Yang Limin and Ms. Xu Donghua Arrested

Ms. Yang Limin and Ms. Xu Donghua were reported to the police while talking to people about Falun Gong in Chang’an District around 9 a.m. on May 23, 2023. They were arrested by officers from the Changfeng Police Station. It was reported that their family members received a notice that only stated that they were detained for 10 days. It is not clear where the two practitioners are being held.

9. [Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province] Several Practitioners Harassed

On May 16, 2023, officers from the Xuanpingbao Township Police Station in the Wanquan District once again went Ms. Cui Zhanmei’s home in Xuanpingbao Village to harass her. Ms. Cui was not at home at the time. Throughout the following days, they continued to go to her home to harass her.

The officers also broke into and ransacked the homes of several practitioners in Dibatan Village. They took away photos of the founder of Falun Gong from some practitioners’ homes.

10. [Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Liu Weidong Detained

Mr. Liu Weidong was reported to the police by the community property staff for posting “World Falun Dafa Day” stickers on May 10, 2023. He was arrested on May 12 by the Dongcheng District police. He is being held in the Lingyuan City Detention Center.

11. [Longkou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Wang Wenhua Released on Bail; Ms. Zhang Lingfang Released From Detention Center

On May 9, 2023, the Longkou police broke into a large number of practitioners’ homes and arrested them. Ms. Wang Wenhua was held in the Yantai City Detention Center. On the morning of May 28, her family member went through the procedures to get her released on bail, and Ms. Wang returned home that day. Ms. Zhang Lingfang, who was held in the Yantai Detention Center, also returned home.

12. [Ankang City, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Li Shoulan Arrested

Ms. Li Shoulan, 70, from Sichuan Province, was arrested in Ankang City, Shaanxi Province on February 22, 2023. After being interrogated and held for over 10 days, she returned home. The police ransacked her home again. She has been not been seen or heard from for two weeks, and the police may have arrested her again.

13. [Liaocheng City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhang Hongying Harassed

Officer Deng Changyi and an officer in plain clothes from the Jiangguantun Police Station broke into Ms. Zhang Hongying’s home around 9 a.m. on May 10, 2023. One of them tried to photograph Ms. Zhang with his cell phone, but Ms. Zhang refused to cooperate. Ms. Zhang did not know whether any pictures of her were taken. These officers left without saying anything.

Around the same time on the May 12, two young men broke into Ms. Zhang’s home and rushed straight to her bedroom. When they saw a copy of Zhuan Falun on the table, they took it and then searched the entire room. Ms. Zhang tried to stop them. A man with a red cloth on his arm tried to hit her. They found and confiscated Falun Dafa books.

14. [Huangmei County, Hubei Province] Ms. Chen Chunlian Harassed

Six officers from the Xiaochi Town Police Station went to Ms. Chen Chunlian’s home in Yucaiyuan Village around April 27, 2023. They took out their cell phones and photographed Ms. Chen and her family. Ms. Chen and her family now live in fear.

15. [Qichun County, Hubei Province] Five Practitioners Arrested

Wang Hong, Tong Haiyan, Wang Chengfa, He Lanjiao, and elderly Hu went to Guanyao Town on May 26, 2023, to distribute information about Falun Gong. They were reported to the police and arrested by officers from the Guanyao Town Police Station. Hu and He were released that evening. The other three practitioners were taken into custody.
