Additional Persecution News from China – May 25, 2023 (14 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 12 cities or counties in 7 provinces, where at least 27 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Prison Guards Rewarded for Persecuting Practitioners

Practitioners who are detained in the Nanshan Prison have been intensely brainwashed since March 2023 including being forced to sit on small stools from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day and to watch videos that slander Falun Gong. Several practitioners have been detained in the strictly-controlled division. The prison guards are awarded second-class merit and a 10,000 to 20,000 yuan bonus if they can “transform” a practitioner. Mr. Wu Chengyun and Mr. Sui Yinghua are still detained there.

2. [Yuzhou City, Henan Province] Mr. Wang Yongsheng Faces Second Trial

Mr. Wang Yongsheng will face a second trial in the No.1 Court Room of Yuzhou City People’s Court at 9:30 a.m. on May 26, 2023. The judge is Liu Xiangpeng.

Mr. Wang was arrested on July 14, 2022, and was sent to the Yuzhou City Detention Center. He was tried in the Weidu District Court on February 2, 2023. His lawyer from Beijing and his daughter defended his innocence. However, he was sentenced to two years and six months in prison and fined 3000 yuan on March 14, 2023.

3. [Beijing] Mr. Wen Jizong Arrested and Detained

Mr. Wen Jizong from Miyun District was arrested at 9 p.m. on May 18, 2023, when he distributed information about Falun Gong. He was taken to the Xibinhe Police Station. His home was ransacked. He has been detained in the Miyuan Police Station.

4. [Donggang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wang Xiuhua Arrested and Detained

Ms. Wang Xiuhua, 68, as well as four other practitioners, were arrested when they distributed information about Falun Gong at Cross Street on May 12, 2023. Ms. Wang was sent to the Dandong City Detention House.

5. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Gong Shuying Arrested and Detained

Ms. Gong Shuying was arrested by officers from the Nanhu Police Station on the afternoon of May 18, 2023. She is currently held in Room 4311, Xinglongshan Detention Center.

6. [Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Three Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Yao Qingyun, Ms. Zhang Guixiang, and Ms. Tian Yingchun were arrested by officers in the Donggang District on May 18, 2023. Their homes were ransacked. The practitioners were released on bail pending trial that evening.

Officers from the Longgang District Police Department tried to harass Ms. Zheng Yulan from Chengfeng No. 10 Community but they were stopped by Ms. Zheng’s daughter-in-law.

7. [Beijing] Ms. Chen Shuping Harassed

During the CCP’s “sensitive days” around May 13, 2023, Ms. Chen Shuping was harassed by officers and community staff members. She was followed by security guards in the residential community.

8. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Wang Guozhan Arrested

Wang Guozhan from Shanghewan Town of Jiutai District was arrested by officers from the Gongnong Police Station in Jiutai District. Wang was sent to the Xinglongshan Detention Center.

9. [Qixia City, Shandong Province] Ms. Liu Cuifen Harassed

Three officers from the Yaocun District Police Department went to Ms. Liu Cuifen’s home in Jukuang Village on the morning of May 24, 2023. After they didn’t find her, they went to her mother’s home. They got Ms. Liu’s husband’s office phone number and called him. They demanded he send them her recent photo.

10. [Shanghai] Ms. Xu Huijuan and Her Son Mr. Zhou Sheng Arrested and Detained

Ms. Xu Huijuan and her son Mr. Zhou Sheng live in Huacheng Residential Community in No. 168 Lane, Shiquan East Road, Putuo District. She tried to clarify the truth to a taxi driver when she was taking a taxi on the evening of March 23, 2023. The driver reported her to the police. Officers from the Guangzhong Road Police Station and the Hongkou District Police Department went to her home on the afternoon of March 24, 2023. They ransacked her home and confiscated many Falun Gong books, some laptops, several cell phones, and a printer. Ms. Xu and her son Mr. Zhou were arrested and taken to the Guangzhong Road Police Station.

Ms. Xu was released on bail pending trial early on March 25, 2023. She was escorted home to get the money to pay a 2000 yuan bond. She was placed under 30-day criminal detention and was taken to the Hongkou District Detention Center. Her case was changed to 15-day administration detention and she was released on April 20, 2023.

11. [Cangzhou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Cao Fengqin and Mr. Sun Zhichao Detained

Ms. Cao Fengqin was arrested on April 25, 2023, and was detained. She was released later.

Mr. Sun Zhichao was sent to the Renqiu Detention Center.

12. [Longkou City, Shandong Province] Three Practitioners Arrested and Detained

Mr. Ren Tao and his wife Ms. Yu Xiaomei were arrested at home on May 9, 2023, during a large-scale arrest. The police ransacked their home and confiscated their computer and Falun Gong books. Mr. Ren was held in the Zhangjiagou Detention Center until May 24, 2023. Ms. Yu was held in the Fushan Detention Center.

Ms. Wu Jingkun who is from Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province, and stays in Longkou City, was also arrested on May 9, 2023, during the group arrest. She was held in the Fushan Detention Center in Yantai City until she was released on May 23, 2023.

13. [Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province] Mr. Shen Guosheng Sent to Jinzhong Prison

Mr. Shen Guosheng, a 46-year-old doctor of Chinese medicine, was arrested on December 29, 2021. He was sentenced to three years and eight months, with a 5,000-yuan fine by the Yingze District Court in December 2022. He appealed to the Taiyuan City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold his original verdict. He was taken to the Jinzhong Prison on May 11, 2023.

14. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Cui Changsheng Sentenced to Prison

Mr. Cui Changsheng was arrested at 6 a.m. on September 26, 2022, by officers of the Acheng District Police Department and Jincheng Police Station. Without informing his family, the Acheng District Court sentenced him to 3.5 years. His family didn’t find out about his term until several months later. He is currently held at the Acheng District No.1 Detention Center.

Prior to his latest sentencing, Mr. Cui was arrested another time on September 26, 2010, together with his mother Ms. Zhang Lihua. They were sentenced to five and six years, respectively, on March 24, 2011, by the Acheng District Court. Mr. Cui served time in Hulan Prison. Ms. Zhang was taken to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison.
