(Minghui.org) A 71-year-old Tianjin resident was forcibly taken to the Tianjin City Women’s Prison on May 15, 2023, to serve a 3.5-year prison sentence given seven years ago.
Ms. Gao Yulan was arrested on August 6, 2016, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong at a community market. The police raided her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books and photo of Falun Gong’s founder. Due to her poor health, the local detention center refused to admit her. She was released on bail the next day.
Ms. Gao was later sentenced to 3.5 years by the Wuqing District Court. As her health remained poor, she was also denied admission to the prison. For the next seven years, the police kept harassing Ms. Gao and ordered her to do physical examinations, despite her persistent poor health. In particular, the harassment intensified since 2022. The court decided this year to imprison Ms. Gao, no matter whether she passed the physical examination or not.
When the court officials and police came on May 15, 2023, to take her to the prison, Ms. Gao refused to get into the police car. The police called in two more officers, who helped carry Ms. Gao into the car and took her to the prison.
