Additional Persecution News from China – April 23, 2023 (18 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 17 cities or counties in 10 provinces, where at least 19 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Baoding City, Hebei Province] Ms. Li Fangjuan Arrested and Detained

Ms. Li Fangjuan lives in Gangzishang Village, Boye County. She was arrested in the Beiwangli Village Market in Beiwangli Town, Qingyuan County on April 19, 2023 for talking to people about Falun Gong. Ms. Li was detained 11 days in the Qingyuan County Detention House.

2. [Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Zhang Yutang Arrested

Mr. Zhang Yutang was arrested at 5 p.m. on April 21, 2023. His home was ransacked by several officers before his arrest. 

3. [Yangquan City, Shanxi Province] Ms. Zhang Ruiping Detained in a Brainwashing Center

Ms. Zhang Ruiping was arrested at home on the morning of April 19, 2023. Her home was ransacked. She was taken to the Yangquan City Detention Center.

4. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Li Fen Detained

Ms. Li Fen was arrested by officers from the Zhuanshiwan Police Station in Ganjingzi District on April 18, 2023. She was detained two days in the police station and was then taken to the No. 2 Detention House.

5. [Xiangyang City, Hubei Province] Ms. Zhang Yongqing Taken to the Brainwashing Center

Ms. Zhang Yongqing was arrested and taken to a brainwashing center on April 20, 2023.

6. [Zhengzhou City, Henan Province] Mr. Ma Pengfei Detained

Mr. Ma Pengfei is detained in the No. 3 Detention Center in Guying Town.

7. [Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Wen Xiaohua Arrested and Detained

Ms. Wen Xiaohua from Zhanggong District, 65, was arrested by officers in Zhanggong District in mid-March 2023 for talking to people about Falun Gong. Ms. Wan was arrested previously and was sentenced to one year which was executed out of prison. 

8. [Guan County, Shandong Province] Ms. Du Fengying and Ms. Chen Qingzhen Harassed

Ms. Du Fengying, 87, was harassed at home by three officers from the Ganguantun Police Station at the end of February 2023. They forcefully took the blood sample of her.

Ms. Chen Qingzhen, 84, was harassed at home by three officers from the Ganguantun Police Station on the afternoon of April 18, 2023. They forcefully took the blood sample of her.

9. [Tai’an City, Shandong Province] Ms. Liu Faling’s Home Ransacked

Two officers from the Sanlitun Police Station in Taishan District went to Ms. Liu Faling’s home at 9 a.m. on April 17, 2023. Ms. Liu Faling, 87, and three other practitioners were there when the police came. The police registered the practitioners and confiscated USB drives and the paper bills imprinted with Falun Gong facts from two of the practitioners. They also ransacked Ms. Liu’s home and confiscated the Dafa books, the photo of Falun Gong founder, the truth-clarifying materials, a desktop computer, a laptop, and some paper bills imprinted the Falun Gong facts. They warned the practitioners not gathering any more.

10. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Fan Jinqing Harassed

Several officers from the Haxi Police Station went to Ms. Fan Jinqing’s home in Nangang District at noon on April 19, 2023. They ransacked her home and forcefully held Ms. Fan’s hand to sign on the guarantee statement, which left the over-70-year-old lady with bruises.

11. [Weining County, Guizhou Province] Mr. Dai Yongmao Arrested

Three officers broke to Mr. Dai Yongmao’s home on the afternoon of April 15, 2023. They ransacked his home and confiscated over ten Dafa books. Mr. Dai was taken to the police station for interrogation. They took him to the Yazitang Detention Center two hours later and forcefully took the blood sample of him. Mr. Dai was released around mid-night. 

12. [Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Li Shuilian Arrested

Several officers from the Shahe Police Station in Chaisang District went to Ms. Li Shuilian’s home on April 18, 2023. They removed the satellite dish. Next day, they came back again. They confiscated the TV and took Ms. Li and her son to the police station for interrogation. They were released around 9 p.m.

13. [Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Tian Haiying Arrested and Detained

Ms. Tian Haiying was arrested near her younger sister’s home by officers from the Changhong Police Station in Xunyang District on the evening of March 15, 2023. She was detained in the Jiujiang City Detention Center and was released on April 21, 2023. 

14. [Shanghai] Ms. Zhu Yunxiang Arrested

Three officers from Yangpu District broke into Ms. Zhu Yunxiang’s home in Putuo District on the afternoon of April 20, 2023. They ransacked her home and confiscate the two USB drives and the cell phones of Ms. Zhu and her husband. When Ms. Zhu refused to go with the police, they forcefully dragged her with her head down from the fourth floor all the way to the downstairs.

15. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Sun Lijuan Taken to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison

Ms. Sun Lijuan was arrested on April 25, 2021 for posting information about Falun Gong on WeChat. She stood trial at the Linghai City Court on November 11, 2021 and was sentenced to five years with a 10,000-yuan fine on November 29, 2021. She appealed with the Jinzhou City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold her original verdict on January 24, 2022. She was transferred to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on March 27, 2023.

16. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Yu Guizhen Taken to Prison to Serve a Five-year Term

Ms. Yu Guizhen, 57, was arrested on October 16, 2021 and sentenced to five years in June 2022 by the Chaoyang District Court. She appealed with the Changchun City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold her original verdict. She was recently taken to the 8th ward at Jilin Province Women’s Prison. The prison forbade her family from visiting her.

17. [Luzhou City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Lei Huanying Taken to Sichuan Province Women’s Prison

Ms. Lei Huanying was arrested on August 21, 2019 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. She was sentenced to five years with a 20,000-yuan fine on July 21, 2021 by the Lu County Court. Three other practitioners were also sentenced with her. Among them, Ms. Deng Wanying was given nine years and fined 50,000 yuan. Ms. Luo Taihui was sentenced to three and a half years with a 10,000-yuan fine. Ms. Gou Zhengqiong was sentenced to three years and fined 5,000 yuan. They appealed with the Luzhou City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold their original verdicts on November 25, 2021.

After over three years at the detention center, Ms. Lei was transferred to Sichuan Province Women’s Prison on March 16, 2023. Ms. Gou and Ms. Luo have been released after serving their terms.

18. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Ms. Yang Shuxian Taken to Hebei Province Women’s Prison

Ms. Yang Shuxian, 73, was sentenced to three years and four months by the Funing District Court in late 2022. She has been taken to the Hebei Province Women’s Prison on April 15, 2023. As her children are working out of town, her husband, who is in his 70s and has been diagnosed with lung cancer, struggles to care for himself.
