Five Liaoning Residents Detained for Practicing Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) At least five Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province residents have been arrested since late February 2023 for their faith in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Under orders from Li Meishan, director of the 610 Office branch in the Jinzhou City Police Department, the police monitored local practitioners’ daily lives and photographed them. Some practitioners found tracking devices on their electric motorcycles while others noted button surveillance cameras on their front doors. There were also practitioners who realized that they were being followed by plainclothes officers in cars when they went out.

After arresting some of the practitioners, the police attempted to force them to admit to trumped-up charges or provide information about other practitioners.

Thirteen officers came to Ms. Ma Zhiru’s home at 4 p.m. on February 15, 2023. Two officers dragged her by the arms to the police car, while another one video-recorded her.

Mr. Wang Jingzhong was arrested while working in his vegetable greenhouse at 8 p.m. on March 9.

The third practitioner, Ms. Wang Yinghua, was violently arrested while running an errand on March 10. The police searched her workplace and confiscated her electric motorcycle, household registration book, and key to her office. She experienced dizziness after being taken to the Jinzhou City Women’s Detention Center. As she remained firm in practicing Falun Gong, the police accused her of “having bad behavior” and threatened to sue her.

After arresting Ms. Dai Xiuhua on March 12, the police took her to Ms. Zhang Liyan’s home and raided the place. Ms. Zhang’s Falun Gong books, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, and a laptop computer were confiscated, but she wasn’t arrested.

The police attempted to arrest Ms. Yi Chunyan on March 12, but she wasn’t home when they arrived.

The fifth practitioner, Mr. Wang Lin, was arrested early on the morning of March 23. His arrest was approved on April 13.

The three female practitioners are currently being held in the Jinzhou City Women’s Detention Center and the two male practitioners in Jinzhou City Detention Center.
