Additional Persecution News from China – April 2, 2023 (8 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 8 cities or counties in 6 provinces, where at least 13 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Practitioners Tortured in Chengdu Women’s Prison

Officials and guards at the Chengdu Women’s Prison take measures to “transform” practitioners in Hong’an Town, Longquanyi District.

They demand that every practitioner be transformed. Those who refuse and remain steadfast in their belief are tortured, including by being forced to sit on small stools for long periods of time, being shocked with high voltage, and being force-fed. Some practitioners have developed serious muscle ulcerations as a result of torture and their faces and abdomens have become swollen.

2. [Tianjin] Ms. Du Yanhong Faces Trial

Ms. Du Yanhong will be tried on April 3, 2023.

3. [Fuxin County, Liaoning Province] Case Against Ms. Zhang Guozhen Turned Over to Procuratorate

Ms. Zhang Guozhen was arrested by officers from the Chengxi Police Station in May 2022. She was released on bail for one year, and her case was turned over to the Fuxin County Procuratorate.

Ms. Zhang was previously sentenced twice, each time to four years in prison, for a total of eight years of imprisonment.

4. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Kou Jianhua Taken to Detention Center

Mr. Kou Jianhua did not return home after heading out for work on the afternoon of March 15, 2023. His family went to his work unit to look for him. It turned out that he did not go to work. His family went to the Hunhewan Police Station that afternoon and met him there. Officers at the police station said he was photographed distributing Falun Gong materials.

A few days later, Mr. Kou was taken to the Baitabao Detention Center.

5. [Zhucheng City, Shandong Province] Five Practitioners Tried

Ms. Sun Peiying, Ms. Chi Guilan, Ms. Chen Xiulan, Ms. Liu Zhaoqing, and Ms. Ma Shuyan were tried by the Gaomi City Court on March 24, 2023.

The court hearing started at around 9 a.m. and ended at 12:30 p.m. Decisions were not reached in court, and the judge said that he still had to wait for the collegial panel to discuss the cases. The five practitioners returned home safely.

6. [Fuyu County, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Wang Chen and His Wife Ms. Nie Shuxia Arrested

Mr. Wang Chen went out at 8 a.m. on March 7, 2023, and was arrested by four police officers who were staked out outside his building. The officers then ransacked his home and confiscated his computer, cell phone, and Falun Gong books.

Mr. Wang’s wife Ms. Nie Shuxia, who was at home, was also arrested. The couple returned home later that day.

7. [Jiaozuo City, Henan Province] Ms. Huang Shumin Repeatedly Harassed by Police

Ms. Huang Shumin, 70, is a retired official from the Jiaozuo Medical Bureau.

Last year, Ms. Huang mailed a Falun Gong informational leaflet to the residential officer of the police station. Soon after, she was arrested by officers from the Gaoxin District Domestic Security Division and taken to the Gaoxin District Police Department, where she was intimidated.

Several officers went to Ms. Huang’s home on the afternoon of March 20, 2023 and ransacked the place on the grounds that she had mailed Falun Gong materials.

Ms. Huang was persecuted several times by officers from the Jiaozuo City Police Department for practicing Falun Gong. She was twice subjected to forced labor. She filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin in 2015, and was sentenced to three years in prison. Her civil service retirement benefits were revoked and her pension was suspended.

8. [Xianning City, Hubei Province] Ms. Tao Xizhen Arrested, Mr. Wang Lidi Harassed

Someone knocked on the door of Ms. Tao Xizhen’s home one morning in late February 2023. Ms. Tao is retired from a construction company in Xianning City. She opened the door and two people came in and harassed her.

One of them called two special police officers, who arrived and searched throughout her home. They smashed the door and lock to one of the rooms. They confiscated photos of the founder of Falun Gong, lotus lanterns, an electric wax device, an audio player, a cell phone, keys, lotus flowers, calendars, amulets, and children’s draft paper.

The officers took Ms. Tao to the Chalukou Police Station, and made audio and video recordings. They resorted to torture in order to extract information from her. She was taken to Xian’an District Detention Center, where she was held for seven days. She was released on March 4.

Mr. Wang Lidi, at the Medical Division of Hubei University of Science and Technology, was harassed by four police officers, led by Wang Qiao, deputy director of the security department of the university on the afternoon of March 3, 2023. The four officers were deputy head Chen Huagang of Wenquan Sub-district Domestic Security Division, deputy head Wang, director Pan Feng of the Yihaoqiao Police Station, and officer Peng Wei from the police station. They secretly photographed Mr. Wang.
