(Minghui.org) An 82-year-old woman in Changchun City, Jilin Province, was held incommunicado after she was arrested on November 9, 2022 for practicing Falun Gong. Her family recently found out that she had been sentenced to two years.
According to Ms. Shi Lianying’s family, who visited her in prison several weeks ago, she was extremely weak, wheelchair-bound, and unable to walk. Her face was covered with scabies. The inmates in her cell often verbally abused her, fearing being infected by her. The authorities have indicated that they intended to release her in the near future.
An insider revealed to Minghui.org that Ms. Shi was hospitalized in late January 2023, but the details aren’t clear.
Past Persecution
Before taking up Falun Gong, Ms. Shi suffered a number of ailments, including duodenal ulcer, gastric bleeding, nephritis, and severe heart disease. Just as she lost hope, she was introduced to Falun Gong and her ailments were gone two weeks into her practice. She thanks Falun Gong for giving her a new life.
Because she refused to give up Falun Gong after the Chinese communist regime ordered the persecution in 1999, Ms. Shi has been repeatedly targeted by the authorities over the past 24 years.
On her way to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong on February 11, 2000, Ms. Shi was arrested at the Changchun Train Station. She was held at the Majiagangzi Lockup for 15 days.
Ms. Shi went to Beijing to appeal again in September 2000, but was arrested at the Changchun Train Station. She was given another 15 days at the Majiagangzi Lockup.
A group of officers broke into her home on August 10, 2012 and confiscated her Falun Gong books and informational materials.
Her next arrest was on July 10, 2013, resulting in nine days of detention at the Jiutai City Detention Center.
Ms. Shi was arrested again on September 24, 2015 for filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese communist regime who ordered the persecution. Her home was ransacked. She was released the same day.
Township officials came to Ms. Shi’s hair salon in mid-July 2020. They took her photo and demanded her personal information.
Ms. Shi and her business partner, Ms. Yin Yanfeng, were arrested at her hair salon on November 17, 2021, after talking to a plainclothes officer disguised as a customer about Falun Gong. Ms. Shi was released in the evening and Ms. Yin was detained for ten days.
Starting in early December 2021, the police began harassing Ms. Shi at home and searching her place every day. The mental distress caused her to develop symptoms of illness.
The police came to Ms. Shi’s home again in August 2022 and took her photo without her consent.
During another round of harassment on September 14, 2022, the police ransacked Ms. Shi’s home and ordered her to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong. As she refused, the police called her sons and ordered them to persuade her to write the statement. They also threatened to suspend her pension or arrest her.
As Ms. Shi insisted that she wouldn’t renounce Falun Gong, she was arrested two months later and secretly sentenced.
