(Minghui.org) After years of cultivation, I understand that all attachments have one thing in common: selfishness. Just imagine the difficulties and obstacles in the process of transforming from a selfish to a selfless life as one cultivates.
Master made this very clear when he taught in the Fa lectures:
“I’ll tell you a truth: The entire cultivation process for a cultivator is one of constantly giving up human attachments.” (Lecture One, Zhuan Falun)
Master also reminded us that the old forces are making it even harder,
“The old forces wanted to foul things up intentionally, to foul them up to this extent. And having made such a mess of things, then they’ll see how you cultivate. With your origins being so high, with you representing so many lives, and with your celestial rank at Consummation being so great, they decided to make China into the mess it is today. [Their thinking was,] “We will only recognize you if you can cultivate out of a situation like this. If you can’t succeed at cultivating this way, then it means your character is lacking. We only recognize those who succeed in cultivation in such an evil setting.”” (“Fa Teaching at the 2013 Greater New York Fa Conference,” Collected Fa Teachings, Vol. XII)
Selfishness is part of one’s being, one’s existence, and it has been that way for countless reincarnations. But with the guidance of the Fa, we Falun Dafa cultivators are able to realize our attachments and actively eliminate them.
By no means is it going to be a smooth process. Some attachments are obvious, and some are deep-seated and well-hidden. It takes determination, perseverance, and the willingness to search within at all times to get rid of them.
This is my understanding at my level. Please kindly point out anything inappropriate.
