(Minghui.org) When Ms. Ma Suyuan, 71, was released on May 14, 2021 from serving a three-year term for practicing Falun Gong, she learned that her pension (including the base amount and the guaranteed annual cost of living adjustment) had been suspended during her entire prison term.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Ma, of Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, was arrested outside of a supermarket on the evening of May 2, 2018. An insider revealed that she had been followed by the police for six months before the arrest. The then 66-year-old woman suffered a heart attack while going through a physical examination and was released on bail on the same day.
Ms. Ma was later sentenced to three years and taken to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on March 15, 2019. In addition to her persistent heart condition, she also became paralyzed and had to use a wheelchair after developing lumbar disc herniation.
For two years and nine months during her three-year term, the guards restricted her in buying daily necessities and her water usage. She was closely monitored by the inmates and wasn’t allowed to talk to others. The inmates beat and verbally abused her at will.
