Additional Persecution News from China – January16, 2023 (14 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 13 cities or counties in 10 provinces, where at least 16 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Liu Jingxiu Taken to Police Supervised Ward in Hospital

Ms. Liu Jingxiu was arrested around May 30, 2022. She was abused by police officers and was taken to a police-supervised ward in the Changchun City Hospital.

2. [Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Wang Suihong’s 5-Year Prison Term Ends

Ms. Wang Suihong was arrested on January 15, 2018, and sentenced to five years in prison. The prison term just ended.

3. [Suining City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Yang Wenhua and Other Practitioners Harassed

Around 11 a.m. on October 3, 2022, Ms. Yang Wenhua received a phone call from a stranger, who claimed to be a local police officer. Around 7 p.m. that evening, two police officers knocked on her door and forced their way into her home. They asked if she still practiced Falun Gong. Ms. Yang said, “I practice Falun Gong and I am very healthy. I’m nearly 70 and don’t need anyone to take care of me. I practice by myself, and this has nothing to do with anyone else. Just leave me alone.”

It was past 10 a.m. on October 26, when two officers from the Baosheng Police Station in Gaoxin District went to Ms. Tan Xiaorong’s home to harass her. Ms. Tan was not at home.

On October 24, community personnel went to Ms. Chen Ying’s home to harass her. They photographed her.

4. [Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Luo Ling Harassed

At 11 a.m., five police officers went to the home of Ms. Luo Ling, who worked at the Lianjiang Cement Plant.

The officers rang the doorbell. Ms. Luo’s husband opened the door. The officers started to grab things as soon as they entered the couple’s home. They asked, “Where is Luo Ling?” Ms. Luo’s husband said that she was sleeping. They pointed to the photo of Falun Gong’s founder and said that it was illegal to display it.

5. [Jinan City, Shandong Province] Mr. Song Yusheng Taken to Prison

Mr. Song Yusheng was taken to Jinan Prison on January 13, 2023.

6. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Mr. Liu Ming Harassed

Mr. Liu Ming, 54, is from Xingjiachangtuan Village, Gudi Town, Hanting District. In recent years, officers from the Domestic Security Division and 610 Office, from both Weifang City and the Hanting District, ransacked his home three times and went to his home to harass him on numerous occasions.

After domestic security officers, 610 Office members, and Political and Legal Affairs Committee personnel, in Gudi Town, Hanting District, and Weifang City, learned that Mr. Liu Ming practiced Falun Gong, they sent people to follow and monitor him. More than twelve cars followed him almost every time he went out. Every time he left or returned to the village, he was watched by people sent by the village committee, the number of which ranged from three or five to as many as 10. When he was working in the field on the far side of the village, the village officials would send one or two people to watch him.

7. [Handan City, Hebei Province] Mr. Liu Yantao’s Case Brought to Court

Mr. Liu Yantao, born in 1987, is a taxi driver. On January 4, 2023, his father called Liu Yanfeng, chief judge of the executive division of Feixiang District Court. Mr. Liu and Mr. Ji Ruiling have been prosecuted by the Feixiang District Procuratorate, which sent the case files to the Feixiang District Court.

8. [Xiangtan City, Hunan Province] Ms. Peng Jie Harassed

Ms. Peng Jie refused to accept the search, evidence collection, and arrest conducted by the Yuhu District Police Department in 2020. Ms. Peng was placed under residential surveillance for six months in 2020. She filed a complaint on June 7, 2021, which was dismissed and returned to her.

During this period, Ms. Peng was forced to sign a repentance statement someone else drafted. She was also unreasonably photographed and threatened several times.

On March 23, 2021, Ms. Peng was arrested again. The police said she was needed to close her case. In 2022, community management officials and the police continued to harass her. Her family was stressed out. These people also installed surveillance cameras near her home.

9. [Xiangtan County, Hunan Province] Ms. Liu Huilan Sentenced to Prison with Probation

Ms. Liu Huilan, 77, from the Fujia Group in Chaolong Village, Xiangshui Township, was caught on surveillance cameras in 2022 when she was distributing Falun Gong materials in a residential area in Xiangtan City. Officers from the Yuhu District Police Department specifically responsible for persecuting Falun Gong broke into Ms. Liu’s home and ransacked the place. The officers took her to the police station to be interrogated and videotaped. Ms. Liu’s face became flushed. She fell down and passed out. Fearing that her life was in imminent danger, the officers told her family to take her home for the time being.

Afterward, the police did not let up persecuting Ms. Liu. She was forced to leave home to avoid harassment. The police located Ms. Liu’s temporary residence by tracking her cell phone and tricked her and her family to go to the Yuhu District Police Department. The police department, Yuhu District Procuratorate, and the court collaborated in prosecuting her.

On October 25, 2022, the court held a hearing at Ms. Liu’s home and sentenced her to one year in prison, suspended for two years, and fined her 3,000 yuan. On December 22, 2022, the Xiangshui Township government took over the responsibility of restricting Ms. Liu’s personal freedom.

10. [Xiamen City, Fujian Province] Mr. Li Jianxi Faces Trial

Dr. Li Jianxi is scheduled to be tried by the Jimei District Court at 9 a.m. on January 19, 2023.

11. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhang Hui Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Zhang Hui was sentenced to six months in prison and fined 2,000 yuan by the Funing District Court on January 10, 2023.

During the physical examination at the police department hospital, before she was taken into custody, she was found to suffer from uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts. The Funing District Detention Center refused to admit her, and she was placed under residential surveillance. Ms. Zhang is currently preparing to appeal the sentence.

12. [Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Wen Yanhua Faces Trial

Ms. Wen Yanhua will be tried by the Xinxing District Court on the morning of January 16, 2023. Ms. Wen’s former lawyer will attend the hearing to defend her rights as entitled by law.

13. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Zhang Liping and Ms. Zhou Yuqin Abused in Prison

In the summer of 2022, Ms. Zhang Liping from Qitaihe City was terribly beaten by Li Miao and Qi Xin, who were assigned to transform Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Zhang suffered a stroke (cerebral hemorrhage) as a result of the beatings.

When Ms. Zhou Yuqin was being “transformed” from July to August 2022, she was not allowed to drink water. She was only allowed to sleep for four hours each night and was not allowed to go to the toilet.

14. [Huludao City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Li Guihua Taken to Detention Center

Around 11 a.m. on January 11, 2023, personnel from the Internet Surveillance Unit of Huludao City went to the home of Ms. Li Guihua’s daughter and took Ms. Li to the Sierbao Town Police Station in the Lianshan District. Director Li Xiaofei of the police station and deputy director Liu Jiaming ordered that she be taken to the Huludao City Detention Center.

Ms. Li was arrested this time for going to Fengmigou Village to deliver Falun Gong truth-clarification materials to villagers on March 17, 2022. She was reported to the police but was released due to the pandemic. Last October, the police listed Ms. Li as a fugitive in its online system. Ms. Li used her daughter’s cell phone to call her younger sister and was tracked down by the police.
