Pingdingshan City, Henan Province: Updates on the Persecution of Nine Falun Gong Practitioners

(Minghui.org) This report includes updates about the situation of nine Falun Gong practitioners in Pingdingshan City, Henan Province, who were arrested between June 2021 and October 2023.

[1-2] Married Couple Arrested and Wife Sentenced to Four Years

Mr. Huang Yuhe, a retired worker from Pingmei Safety Training Center, and his wife Ms. Huang Xiuzhen, were arrested by officers from the Weidong District Police Department on June 4, 2021. It’s recently confirmed that Ms. Huang has been sentenced to four years in prison. But Mr. Huang’s current situation is unknown.

[3] Ms. Wang Jin Released

Ms. Wang Jin, a lecturer at Pingdingshan University, was arrested by officers from Baofeng County Domestic Security Office on July 4, 2022. She has been released after nearly a year of incarceration.

[4-5] Two Practitioners Detained for 15 Days

The police used a cellphone tracking function to locate Ms. Ma Pingjun and Hu (a teacher and gender unknown) when they were talking to people about Falun Gong. They were arrested on March 28, 2023, and detained for 15 days each.

[6] Ms. Zhao Ronghua Faces Prison Sentence

The police arrested Ms. Zhao Ronghua, a retiree from Pingdingshan Mine Industry 10th Mine Hospital, in early May 2023. While she managed to escape shortly after, she was soon tracked by the police from Nanyang City Domestic Security Office and arrested again. She is currently held in Baofeng County Detention Center. The Lushan County Court scheduled a hearing of her case on October 24, 2023. It’s not clear whether the hearing indeed took place.

[7] Ms. Wang Guixiang Detained

Ms. Wang Guixiang was arrested by officers from Zhanhe District Domestic Security Office in October 2023 and detained for 15 days.

[8] Ms. Li Aizhen Detained

Ms. Li Aizhen lived near the 8th Mine of Tianan Mine Industry. The police from Weidong District Domestic Security Office ransacked her home and arrested her on an unknown date. Her computer and printer were confiscated. She is currently held in Baofeng County Detention Center.
