(Minghui.org) More than thirty residents across various cities in Fujian Province were arrested between the night time of June 18 and early morning of June 19, 2022, for their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
The group arrest was likely orchestrated by the Fujian Province 610 Office and the Political and Legal Affairs Committee, both extra-judicial agencies tasked with overseeing the persecution of Falun Gong.
Three of the arrested practitioners have been sentenced to prison. Mr. Zhuang Dongjie was given 8.5 years, his older sister Ms. Zhuang Yurong (a 57-year-old kindergarten teacher) was given 3.5 years, and her husband (name unknown) was given six months. The details of the three family members’ indictment, trial, and sentencing remain to be investigated.
Quanzhou City: 17+ Practitioners and 4 Non-practitioners Arrested
Mr. Zhuang, Ms. Zhuang, and her husband were arrested on the night of June 18, 2022, while studying Falun Gong teachings at a private home in Huian County, Quanzhou City. A few other practitioners at the home, including Mr. Lin Peisheng and Mr. Zheng Jinqing, were arrested too. Mr. Zhuang’s younger sister, who did not practice Falun Gong, was seized as well. The police later raided the homes of all arrested practitioners and confiscated their personal belongings, such as Falun Gong books, cell phones, computers, and printers.
Ms. Huang Huaqiong, a math teacher of the Nanpu Middle School in Quangang District, Quanzhou City, was arrested on June 18, 2022, while distributing Falun Gong informational materials in Xiamen City (about 56 miles away). She was taken to a brainwashing center in Quangang District for 30 days.
Ms. Huang’s sister and brother-in-law, who did not practice Falun Gong, were arrested hours later, in another city of Fujian Province. The couple were later released. It’s not clear what triggered their arrests.
Ms. Peng Hanyu and her husband Mr. Chen Burong were arrested at home on June 18, 2022, and the police confiscated their Falun Gong books and computer. Ms. Lian (not a Falun Gong practitioner and first name unknown), an accountant who was visiting the couple, was arrested too.
Other Quanzhou practitioners known to have been arrested that night included Ms. Yu Baoying, Mr. Lian Qingshui, Ms. Wang Chunying, Mr. Lin Yongchuan and his daughter (name unknown), Mr. Huang Yongbin, Ms. Huang Xiaobin, Ms. Lin Wen, and Mr. Wu Huibin.
Fuzhou City: 10 Practitioners Arrested
Ms. Chen Xue, a former professor at the Fujian University of Technology in Fuzhou City, Ms. Huang Bixian, her sister (name unknown), and their cousin Ms. Weng Meichai, all had their homes raided and got arrested on the night of June 18, 2022.
Mr. Zhong Yingjian and two other practitioners whose names are unknown were also arrested around the same time.
Ms. Chen, Ms. Huang’s sister, and Ms. Weng were later released. Ms. Huang was taken to the Fuzhou City Second Detention Center. Ms. Chen had been barred from teaching due to her faith and was demoted to do logistics work at her university.
Three members of a family in Yongtai County, Fuzhou City were arrested at around 9 a.m. on June 19, 2022. Mr. Lin Dingguang, his wife Ms. Fan Juanming, and their daughter were taken to the local police station, where they were interrogated and had their urine and blood samples taken, and their voice prints and fingerprints collected. The three of them were released at midnight. Ms. Fan’s middle-schooler grandson was taken to his school for interrogation that morning. The family’s Falun Gong books, audio lectures, exercise instruction videos, an iPad, a telephone, Falun Gong informational materials, and other personal belongings were all confiscated.
Nanping City: Multiple Practitioners Arrested
Multiple practitioners in Pucheng County, Nanping City were arrested on the night of June 18, 2022. Their names remain to be investigated.
Xiamen City: 3 Practitioners Arrested
Dr. Li Jianxi, his wife, and their son were arrested in the early morning of June 19, 2022. The police also took away all staff of the family’s Danhao Clinic. Dr. Li was taken to the Xiamen City Third Detention Center on July 4, 2022.
Zhangping City: 2 Practitioners Arrested
Hours after Dr. Li’s arrest, Xiamen police together with their counterparts in Zhangping City, raided his childhood home in Zhangping. They also raided the home of his younger brother, Mr. Li Jianhua, who still lives in Zhangping. Another Zhangping practitioner, Ms. Hua Rongli, had her home raided too, and got arrested.
