(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 14 cities or counties in 8 provinces, where at least 17 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Xiangyang City, Hubei Province] Ms. Xia Juying Passes Away After Being Imprisoned
Ms. Xia Juying, 79, was a retired teacher from the Railway Primary School. She was arrested and detained for 15 days by officers from the Taiping Police Station in 2020 when someone reported her for distributing Falun Gong flyers. Her home was repeatedly ransacked.
She was sentenced to three years in prison in late 2022 and imprisoned in February 2023. She passed away on July 18, 2023.
2. [Taikang County, Henan Province] Sun Airong Sentenced to Prison
Sun Airong, gender unknown, was arrested by officers from the Nanguan Police Station on December 9, 2022 after someone reported Sun when he or she visited a practitioner’s home. The Taikang County Procuratorate prosecutor rejected Sun’s case because there was not enough evidence. The police then submitted the case to the Huaiyang County Procuratorate. The Huaiyang County Court held a trial in August 2023. Sun recently received the court verdict stipulating that he or she had been sentenced to three years in prison.
3. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Mr. Zhao Baoshan Missing Since August 2023
Mr. Zhao Baoshan has been missing since late August 2023.
4. [Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Li Shuling’s Home Is Watched
Ms. Li Shuling lives in the Wudalianchi Natural Reserve Scenic Area. She was arrested on September 22, 2023, but escaped. Unidentified persons recently walked around her community, and went to her parents’ home and her parents-in-law’s home and asked where she was.
5. [Ning’an City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Cao Limin Detained for Five Days
Ms. Cao Limin from Dongjingcheng Town, was arrested and released the same day by officers from the Forestry Domestic Security Division on September 12, 2023. She was arrested again on September 20 and detained for five days in the Ning’an Detention Center.
6. [Tianjin] Thirteen Practitioners Arrested
Thirteen practitioners were arrested in mid-July. Some of them were released. Ms. Pan and Ms. Zhao’s whereabouts are unknown.
7. [Tonghua City, Jilin Province] Ms. Li Guihua Detained for 15 Days
Ms. Li Guihua, who lives in the Erdaojiang District, was arrested on September 22, 2023, and her home was ransacked. She was detained for 15 days and is being held in the Changliu Detention Center.
8. [Wanzai County, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Long Zhengxiu Detained
Ms. Long Zhengxiu, 67, was illegally arrested at her home on September 20, 2023. Seven officers, including Wu Hui, from the Wanzai County Domestic Security Division did not follow the legal process. They ransacked her home, and seized her handwritten copies of Falun Gong books, an exercise music player, etc.
She was held in the Yichun City Detention Center. When her blood pressure was higher than 200 mmHg on the third day she was taken to a hospital. Guards called her son to the hospital, and then they disappeared. She returned home on the evening of September 26.
She was placed under surveillance by cameras that monitored her movements in April 2023, and she was harassed by community clerks.
9. [Mianyang City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Zhang Mingqiong and Ms. Wang Guofeng Arrested
Two elderly practitioners, Ms. Zhang Mingqiong of Yongxing Town and Ms. Wang Guofeng from Leshan City but moved to Mianyang, were arrested by two officers from the Chengxiang Police Station on September 19, 2023. The police took them to the police station and searched their purses. The police showed them the surveillance videos of them distributing Falun Gong flyers at a park and the area near the Central Hospital. Police ransacked their homes at around 4 p.m., seized a picture of the founder of Falun Gong and two media players from Ms. Zhang’s home, and four Falun Gong books from Ms. Wang’s place.
Ms. Zhang was handcuffed even when she used the restroom. The police did not let them have any water or food, and took them to a hospital for a physical exam with the intention to detain them for five days. When the doctor found that Ms. Zhang’s blood pressure was too high, the police did not give up and had the doctor check her again. But her blood pressure was even higher. The two practitioners were finally released after 6 p.m., after they were forced to fingerprint some documents.
10. [Yongji County, Jilin Province] Ms. Wu Fengzhen Sentenced
Ms. Wu Fengzhen, 68, was sentenced to two years in prison. The sentence was suspended for three years.
11. [Yantai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Fu Yanyun Detained
Ms. Fu Yanyun lives in Fujia Village, Huangwu Town in the Zhifu District. She talked to passengers on the bus when she was commuting to work on September 22, 2023. A passenger photographed her and reported her to police. She was arrested by officers from the Huangwu Police Station. She was sentenced to criminal detention and sent to the Fushan Detention Center.
12. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Ms. Li Xiurong Detained
Ms. Li Xiurong of Laixi City went to Qingdao for sightseeing with her family on August 23, 2023. When they arrived at the Qingdao South Station, security checked her resident ID card and found that she had filed a complaint against former CCP head Jiang Zemin. She was arrested on the spot by South Station Police Station officers. They questioned her and searched her. They found several Falun Gong keepsakes in her bag. They took her fingerprints, put her in a police car, and detained her for three days in the Pudong Detention Center.
13. [Yinchuan City, Ningxia Autonomous Region] Ding Qian Faces Trial
Ding Qian, gender unknown, was charged by Domestic Security Division officers. The case was sent to the Litong District Procuratorate in Wuzhong City on July 27, 2023. The Litong District Court accepted the case on August 28, 2023.
After Ding developed high blood pressure in the detention center, Ding’s family submitted a bail application. But it was denied by Wang Hao of the Domestic Security Division.
The Procuratorate clerk told the family that Ding might be sentenced to 12 or 18 months in prison, and the hearing was scheduled for September 29, 2023.
14. [Cangxi County, Sichuan Province] Ms. Liu Xianghua and Her Husband Arrested
Ms. Liu Xianghua and her husband were arrested at their home by four officers from the Lingjiang Police Station on the morning of July 22, 2023. A Jinshui Community female clerk went to their home with the officers. When they opened the door, the officers rushed in, illegally searched the place, and seized their computer, cell phones, and three MP3 audio players. They were taken to the police station and interrogated separately. Her husband was released at around 3 p.m. Ms. Liu was released at around 6 p.m.
15. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Ms. Xu Haihong Detained
Ms. Xu Haihong, 56, was arrested by Liaoyang Road Police Station officers around September 10, 2023. She is being held in the Pudong Detention Center.
