(Minghui.org) Li Shaowen, captain of the Longlin County Domestic Security Office in Guangxi Province, died of COVID on January 4, 2023. During his tenure, he actively carried out orders from Guangxi Province and Baise City (which oversees Longlin County) to persecute local Falun Gong practitioners.
The persecution of Longlin practitioners included their arrest, detention, home raids, harassment, and prison sentences based on fabricated evidence against them. During the “Two Sessions” (annual sessions of National People’s Congress (NPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC)), for example, Li often had practitioners arrested and held in local detention centers to prevent them from exposing the persecution in public.
When practitioners told him the facts of Falun Gong and explained that freedom of belief is guaranteed by the Constitution, Li bluntly ignored that. “If you do not give up practicing Falun Gong, you will be sorry,” he often said. “I don’t believe in retribution – it is nonsense!” As a result, he never stopped persecuting practitioners. One of them, Ms. Chen Peizhu, who has a disability, was sentenced to four years in prison in 2006.
Li later developed nose and throat cancer. It was very painful and nothing helped even after he visited larger hospitals in major cities such as Nanning and Baise. He was emaciated and suffered a lot. He intended to retire but wasn’t allowed to. He recently became infected with COVID and lost his life.
Falun Gong practitioners wish everyone a safe and healthy life. But it will be hard for those who act against their conscience and persecute innocent citizens recklessly to escape their fate if they don’t stop doing bad deeds.
