Ms. Zhang Xiaona’s incapacitated husband is now in dire straits. He recently wrote an appeal letter, demanding his wife’s release and for help to the family.
Below is his letter.
***
My name is Chen Jie, husband of Zhang Xiaona. I’m 49 this year. In 2020, due to an accident at work, I was electrocuted by a power line. Anyone who saw me was scared at my disfigured face.
Accompanied by my wife, I visited the hospitals in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province and Beijing. The expensive medical costs left our poor family in an even more dire situation. As I used up the money I borrowed from my siblings, I had to transfer to smaller local hospitals. I eventually returned home and the doctor prescribed me some topical medications to apply on my own. I can’t take care of myself and even need help when using the restroom. I filed a lawsuit against my workplace, but it is progressing very slowly and I don’t see myself getting any compensation anytime soon.
I’ve had my lower left leg amputated. I cannot hold things with my right hand. My skull is exposed and I am blind. We have two children. One is attending college and the other is still in high school. Now is a very important time in their lives that determines their future. But because of what is going on with their parents, they have to face tremendous difficulties and pain. I’ve fallen into deep desperation. This appeal letter is my last hope.
Someone, please help me and my family. I don’t have any income and I’m facing mounting debt from my medical costs. My two children also depend on me. Please help us and release my wife Zhang Xiaona.
