(Minghui.org) The Minghui.org website recently confirmed that a Heyuan City, Guangdong Province resident was sentenced to a three-year prison term on May 7, 2021 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhang Chunying, 57, was arrested on October 19, 2020, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her arrest was formally approved eight days later. The Yuancheng District Court sentenced her to a three year and two month term, and a 4,000-yuan fine, on May 7, 2021. She has been taken to the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison.
Ms. Zhang took up Falun Gong in late 2016. She has been arrested three times for talking to people about Falun Gong, on August 18, 2017, June 16, 2020, and September 22, 2020, and was detained 15 days each time.
The Yuancheng District Procuratorate and Yuancheng District Court were designated to handle Falun Gong cases in Heyuan City. They have indicted and sentenced at least seven practitioners in recent years, including Ms. Zhang, Ms. Yuan Qunrui, Mr. Wu Hongwei, Ms. Qiu Renying and her sister Ms. Qiu Yuanxiang, Ms. Qiu Hannong (no relation to the Qiu sisters), and Mr. Huang Boming. In particular, Ms. Yuan was sentenced to eight years and Mr. Wu was given five years.
