Mehmet Obul, President of the Uyghur Association of Australia, talked about his personal experience with the CCP’s slandering Falun Gong.

“The first time I heard about Falun Gong was during summer vacation at the end of July 1999,” he said. “I was a university teacher in Xinjiang, China. We were on vacation and were suddenly asked to return to school for an emergency meeting. The university president declared that Falun Gong was a religious organization of some sort, without giving any further explanation. After that, we had to attend a political study session every Wednesday afternoon. We were forced to criticize Falun Gong. If anyone expressed their own opinions they would risk losing their jobs or would be imprisoned.”

He continued, “When I settled down in Australia in 2003, I learned a lot about the truth about Falun Gong. Practicing Falun Gong is a good thing. China’s policies and repression are actually wrong. All the CCP’s propaganda is fake.”

Democracy Advocate: Practitioners Have Shown Fearless Courage

Democracy advocate Nathan Hsu addressed the rally.

Nathan Hsu, a democracy activist, said, “The CCP is based on atheism and prohibits the existence of other ideologies. Facing the CCP’s persecution, Falun Gong has not yielded. You are helping to prevent more tragedies and more killings, and make this world become a better one for future generations.”

Background: What Is Falun Dafa and Why Is the CCP Persecuting It?

Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) was first introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in Changchun, China, in 1992. The spiritual discipline is now practiced in over 100 countries and regions worldwide. Millions of people who have embraced the teachings, which are based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, and learned the five exercises, have experienced improved health and well-being.

Jiang Zemin, former head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), perceived the spiritual discipline’s growing popularity as a threat to the CCP’s atheistic ideology and on July 20, 1999, issued an order to ban the practice. Under Jiang’s personal direction, the CCP established the 610 Office, an extralegal security organization with the power to override the police and judicial systems and whose sole function is to carry out the persecution of Falun Dafa.

Minghui.org has confirmed the deaths of thousands of practitioners as a result of the persecution over the past 23 years, though due to the difficulty in getting information out of China, the actual number is believed to be much higher. Many more have been imprisoned and tortured for their faith.

There is concrete evidence that the CCP sanctions the harvesting of organs from detained practitioners, who are murdered to supply the organ transplant industry.
