South Korea: Practitioners Hold Press Conferences to Mark the 23rd Anniversary of the April 25 Peaceful Appeal

The sun shone beautifully just as practitioners gathered at the Chinese embassy in Seoul near Myeong-dong on April 25. They demonstrated the five Falun Dafa exercises and the soothing music attracted the attention of many local residents.

When the exercises ended, a speaker from the Falun Dafa Association of South Korea introduced Falun Dafa. He gave more information about the April 25, 1999, peaceful appeal and the reason practitioners were holding a press conference. The speaker read a statement in both Korean and Chinese and answered questions from reporters. The statement was delivered to the Chinese embassy.

Many plainclothes officers maintained order for the activity and chatted with practitioners. Practitioners’ efforts to clarify the truth and raise awareness of the persecution over the years have helped the police and local residents understand why practitioners hold events to expose the persecution.

The letter by the Falun Dafa Association of South Korea said, “Falun Dafa practitioners appealed for their basic human rights by gathering in China’s capital, Beijing. The historic appeal that happened on April 25, 1999, was a peaceful, rational event in history and will forever remain a legacy in the years to come.”

At the appeal that occurred on April 25, 1999, over 10,000 Falun Dafa practitioners gathered at the National Appeals Office in Beijing to request the release of 45 detained practitioners from Tianjin and to be allowed to openly practice Falun Dafa.

The appeal that day was quiet and peaceful. No one held banners or shouted slogans. This event was known as the “largest and most peaceful” appeal in Chinese history. Falun Dafa practitioners regard that day as the “April 25 Peaceful Appeal” and commemorate the event every year.
