2005: Findings by Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine

A group of researchers at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas published a paper titled “Genomic profiling of neutrophil transcripts in Asian Qigong practitioners: a pilot study in gene regulation by mind-body interaction” in 2005. The paper appeared in the peer-reviewed Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, the official journal of the Society for Acupuncture Research.

In this paper, researchers analyzed the mind-body interaction by examining the genomic profile through the DNA microarray technology. Compared to the control group, Falun Dafa practitioners exhibited enhanced immunity, better cell metabolism, and improved cell response to inflammation. “Among 12000 genes examined, 250 genes were consistently changed 12000," reported the paper.

In addition, the lifespan of normal neutrophils, an essential component of the immune system, was also prolonged. The enhanced immunity was also confirmed by the accelerated cell death caused by the inflammatory neutrophils. Consistent with this observation, neutrophil phagocytosis was also significantly increased in Falun Dafa practitioners.

A 2012 U.S. survey found that many Americans—more than 30% of adults and about 12% of children—use complementary or alternative medicine, according to information from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.

2016: ASCO Presentation

During the 2016 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting, one presentation highlighted the benefits of Falun Dafa on cancer patients with the title of “An observational cohort study on terminal cancer survivors practicing falun gong (FLG) in China.”

In this study, the authors collected reports from Chinese cancer patients between 2000 and 2015. They included diagnosis, FLG practice duration, Actual Survival (AS) till report date, symptom improvement, and Quality of Life (QoL). All reports were reviewed by two physicians. Predicted Survival (PS) was assessed using the NIH SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results) data and reports of terminal cancer patients (PS ≤ 12 months) with sufficient and verifiable medical information were considered eligible.

With the search terms “late-stage” and “cancer” in the web database, the authors found 406 prospective cases. Among them, 152 terminal cases (PS ≤ 12 months) were deemed eligible. Primary cancer types included lung (n = 38), liver (n = 29), stomach (n = 17), leukemia (n = 12), esophagus (n = 10), gynecological (n = 9), pancreas/bile duct (n = 8), colorectal (n = 7), and others (n = 22).

Among these patients, 65 experienced cancer treatment failure, 74 did not take any further cancer treatment after diagnosis, and 13 patients received treatment along with FLG practice. As of the report date, 149 patients were still alive. “Compared with PS of 5.1±2.7 months, AS was significantly prolonged to 56.0±60.1 months (P < 0.0001). CPS (5.1±2.0 months) was close to SEER survival (5.2±3.2 months), indicating the reliability of CPS and these reports,” reported the authors. “A total of 147 patients (96.7%) reported complete symptom recovery with 60 patients confirmed by treating physicians.”

“Multivariate analysis showed FLG practice duration was the dominating predictive factor for AS [Actual Survival] and SFS [Symptom Free Survival],” the authors noted. “We observed that FLG practice can help terminal cancer patients survive significantly longer, in addition to notable symptom improvement.”

2020: Health Behavior and Policy Review

In late December 2020, the peer-reviewed journal of Health Behavior and Policy Review published an article with the title of “Healthcare Utilization and Perceived Health Status among Falun Gong Practitioners in Taiwan.”

In this study, the authors explored perceived health status, healthcare resource utilization, and related factors among Taiwanese FLG practitioners, compared to themselves before practicing FLG, and also to the general Taiwanese norm, as reported by the 2001 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS). This cross-sectional study was based on a voluntary, paper-based survey conducted from October 2002 to February 2003.

“Among those with chronic diseases, 70% to 89% reported that their conditions were improved or cured. Additionally, 74.2% and 79.2% participants stopped drinking alcohol and quit smoking; 62.7% reported decreased outpatient visits (mean before = 11.96; mean after = 5.87; norm = 14.4),” reported the paper.

Among Falun Gong participants who had any of 4 chronic conditions examined (cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, pulmonary disorders, and hypertension) before practicing Falun Gong, the majority (70% to 89%) reported that their health condition was either cured or their health status improved after practicing Falun Gong.

“In this cohort, FLG participants had higher perceived health scores than the population norm and reduced outpatient visits than before practice,” the authors concluded.

Conclusion

From the surveys and research papers mentioned above and conducted by government agencies, institutions, and researchers, one can find that Falun Dafa has an extraordinary effect on improving physical health and uplifting the mind.

The interplay of mind and body has been well observed and studied in recent years. Falun Dafa practice, in particular, teaches its practitioners to live by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, thus truly improving practitioners’ health, both physically and mentally.

Since Minghui.org came into existence in 1999, every day on this online media, at least one or several practitioners have shared how Falun Dafa has cured their incurable diseases. Very often, they express gratitude beyond words. But the miracles are not limited to Falun Dafa practitioners only. When innocent people are being persecuted in China for their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, those who support them have received blessings as well.

Falun Dafa is currently practiced in over 100 countries, and the main teachings, contained in the book Zhuan Falun, have been translated into more than 40 different languages. For those who are curious about the world and are willing to explore the essence of life, Falun Dafa is here to help you.
