(Minghui.org) A Linghai City, Liaoning Province resident was taken to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on March 4, 2022 to serve time for her faith in Falun Gong. Her husband, who is not a practitioner, suffered severe depression as result of her imprisonment.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Chen Yujie ran into another practitioner Ms. Wei Xiuying on her way to a community fair on May 25, 2021. Without knowing that Ms. Wei was being followed, she stopped to talk to her. Several plainclothes approached and arrested both of them.

Several officers led by Du Haipeng ransacked Ms. Chen’s home in the afternoon. Her husband was terrified. Her Falun Gong books, Falun Gong informational materials, computer, printer, and other office supplies were confiscated. Ms. Wei’s home was also ransacked at the same time.

The police took both women to the Jinzhou Hospital for a physical examination. As Ms. Wei was found to have extremely high blood pressure, she rejected by the local detention center. She was released around midnight. Ms. Chen was detained at the Jinzhou Detention Center.

The Dalinghe Town Police Station later submitted Ms. Chen’s case to the Linghai City Procuratorate. She was secretly tried by the Linghai City Court in late November and later sentenced to five years.

Her sentencing dealt a heavy blow to her husband, after he spent months trying to rescue her. The six-foot-tall man developed severe depression. He became bedridden and unable to care for himself.
