(Minghui.org) A Huangchuan County, Henan Province resident was recently sentenced to nine years for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Ling, 50, began to practice Falun Gong in 2008. She was arrested on June 14, 2022 while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. Her Falun Gong books, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, four laptops, four printers, 140 discs and 20,000 yuan in cash were confiscated.
Ms. Liu was taken to the Xinyang City No.1 Detention Center on the next day. Huangchuna County is under the administration of Xinyang City.
Her family recently learned that she was sentenced to nine years and fined 20,000 yuan on November 25.
In addition to Ms. Liu, two other practitioners in Shihe District, Xinyang City have also been sentenced in December 2021 for practicing Falun Gong. Ms. Bai Yuzhen, 80, was given three years and Ms. Jin Yuling, 61, was sentenced to three years and a half. They appealed with the Xinyang City Intermediate Court, but the judge ruled to uphold their verdicts in June 2022.
Another practitioner, Ms. Li Dianqiu, of Huangchuna County, was arrested in December 2021 for distributing Falun Gong materials. While she was released soon after due to her poor health, the police kept harass her at home. She succumbed to the mental distress and passed away on August 5, 2022. She was 79. Just three days before her passing, the local court called her husband and asked for her photos.
