Having Served 10.5 Years and Lost His Job, Former Teacher Arrested Again for Practicing Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) A Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province, amn was arrested on September 29, 2022, for practicing Falun Gong. Mr. Liu Qingfu is now in criminal detention at the Luobei County Detention Center. It’s reported that the police followed him for a long time before the arrest. 

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. 

Mr. Liu, 53, was a teacher at the Hegang City No. 21 Middle School. In addition to teaching his students subject knowledge, he also guided them with traditional values. When a student became resentful towards his mother for divorcing his father, Mr. Liu shared stories with the student of how the ancients respected their parents and talked about the ancient saying that “Filial piety is the most important of all virtues.” The student was moved and reconciled with his mother. 

Because Mr. Liu refused to renounce Falun Gong after the persecution began, he lost his job and was sentenced twice for a total of 10.5 years. 

Mr. Liu was first arrested on May 4, 2002, and tortured at the Hegang City No. 2 Detention Center. The Gongnong District Court sentenced him to nine years in 2003. He was constantly beaten, shocked with electric batons, and forced to do unpaid labor while serving time. 

Mr. Liu was arrested again on March 10, 2015, for putting up posters about Falun Gong. His family was given the runaround when they sought his release and were denied visitation rights by the Baoquanling Detention Center. 

The Longken Court held a hearing of Mr. Liu’s case on December 7, 2015. He wasn’t allowed to wear his jackets or shoes, but was made to appear in court partially dressed and wearing a pair of slippers. His lawyer Chen Zhiyong entered a not guilty plea for him. Mr. Liu was sentenced to 1.5 years at the end of the trial.
