Shandong Man Recovers from Incurable Eye Condition by Practicing Falun Gong, Twice Sentenced to a Total of 12 Years for His Faith

(Minghui.org) Mr. Yu Jianchun’s appeal against a three-year prison sentence for his faith in Falun Gong was recently rejected by the higher court.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

The ordeal of Mr. Yu, a Yantai City, Shandong Province, resident, stemmed from his arrest on August 23, 2020, after a security guard spotted him distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in a residential area. While he was released on bail in the evening, the police took him back into custody on February 22, 2022.

The Zhifu District Court sentenced Mr. Yu to three years on July 4. He appealed with the Yantai City Intermediate Court, which recently ruled to uphold his original verdict.

Mr. Yu took up Falun Gong in 2002 when he was about to become blind at the age of 32. He was sentenced to nine years by the Laishan District Court in March 2007 and was released in October 2012. His legs felt numb and he also struggled with other physical conditions due to torture in custody. He recovered after resuming practicing Falun Gong.

Below is the letter Mr. Yu wrote to the prosecutor seeking justice for himself, which also detailed the amazing recovery of his incurable eye condition.

I used to be a very selfish person who was after fame and profit. After I graduated from school and started working, I developed many bad habits, including drinking, smoking, and even using prostitutes. But no matter how much I pursued material enjoyment, I still felt empty inside.

One day in 1999, the vision of my right eye suddenly became blurred and I felt there was some water drops blocking my view whenever I tried to see something. The doctor said I had retinal hemorrhages and diagnosed me with “recurrent retinal periphlebitis.” As both eyes are connected, the condition in my right eye would affect my left eye and eventually, I would become blind in both eyes.

I was devastated to hear about this. I was only 29 at the time. If I became blind, how could I face the long life ahead of me?

With the hope that the doctor made a mistake, I went to see many other experts, only to be told the same thing. All the doctors I saw could only use lasers to stop the bleeding, but the laser would also gradually damage the blood vessels. Eventually, the optic nerve would die and I would become completely blind.

In 2001, my left eye indeed had the same symptom as my right eye. I wasn’t willing to accept it and went around to seek a cure, hoping that a miracle would happen to me.

One night after drinking some hot soup, I had severe hemorrhages in my right eye. I was hospitalized as a result. I learned later that the black pepper in the soup may have triggered an expansion of blood vessels. The hospital doctor said that if the blood could be absorbed in a month, he might still be able to treat my eye with a laser. But if the blood remained in my eye a month later, it may cause the retina to detach and lead to blindness.

A month later, there was not any improvement. We found the best eye doctor to operate on me. In the end, my eye was saved, but I only had very little vision left.

I was discharged on December 28, 2001 after 44 days in the hospital. Back then, my child was only three months old and we had just opened a convenience store not long ago. As my wife was busy taking care of our child and the store, I had to ask for help from my father.

Just when I lost hope for my life, I was introduced to Falun Gong. Back then, I underwent frequent eye dilation for the doctor to monitor my condition. But one morning, after I used the dilation drops, I realized that I was no longer sensitive to the light.

A week later, I had severe hemorrhaging again. I was scared in the beginning. But then I realized that Dafa's Master was purifying my body. So I continued to do the exercises and study its teachings. In only three days, the bleeding stopped. But last time, even after taking so many injections and drugs, the blood didn’t go away after a month. Just by practicing Falun Gong, I recovered without taking any drugs.

After that point, I changed to a different person. I understood the true meaning of life and strove to assimilate to the universe’s characteristic of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. I no longer fought with my colleagues or competed for personal gain. Instead, I became understanding, forgiving and considerate. People around me were amazed to see my changes.
