(Minghui.org) Ms. Zeng Jialan, a Hepu County, Guangxi Province resident in her 50s, has been detained incommunicado after being arrested at home on October 15, 2022 for practicing Falun Gong.

Ms. Zeng’s adult daughter, who has been struggling with epilepsy since her youth, waited outside their home every day, longing for Ms. Zeng to return.

Since the Chinese communist regime ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Zeng has been separated from her family for nearly 13 years, as she served two prison terms for upholding her faith. Her husband had to take care of their ailing daughter and elderly parents by himself, while still working to support the family.

Ms. Zeng was first arrested in December 2000 while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in nearby Qisha Town. She was taken back to the local police station in Hepu County a month later. The police beat her, jabbed her with a pointed object, and knocked on her joints with a wooden club. She fainted twice during the 30-hour long torture. After two years of detention, she was sentenced to a nine-year prison term and taken to the Guangxi Province Women’s Prison.

Less than three years after she was released from prison, Ms. Zeng was arrested again on February 29, 2012, for talking to people about Falun Gong. Another practitioner, Ms. Pei Changqin, was also arrested with her. Ms. Zeng was sentenced to 3.5 years and Ms. Pei to 3 years in February 2013. Both were ordered to serve time in Guangxi Province Women’s Prison.

When Ms. Zeng’s prison term expired, the authorities took her to the Baise Brainwashing Center. Less than three months later, in early November, she was transferred to the Qinzhou Brainwashing Center. She wasn’t released for another three months. The police continued to monitor her daily life and constantly harassed her after she returned home.

Wu Huiteng, an officer from the Fengmenling Police Station, called Ms. Zeng on March 2, 2017 and attempted to deceive her into going to the police station, by claiming that he was a friend of her brother. Ms. Zeng refused to go and said he could talk to her over the phone. Only then did Wu admit that he was a police officer. Ms. Zeng urged him not to participate in the persecution. Wu refused to listen and called her again in the afternoon.

Three staff members from the residential committee harassed Ms. Zeng at home on October 9, 2017. One person attempted to take her photo, but Ms. Zeng stopped him. Officer Wu also harassed her over the phone on October 10.
