(Minghui.org) Two Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province residents were recently sentenced to prison for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Liu Sulan, 75, was sentenced to one and a half years. Ms. Yu Shufen, 56, was given three years and two months.

The two practitioners were targeted in a police sweep on June 11, 2021. The police claimed that the group arrests were a “gift” for the Chinese Communist Party’s centennial celebration on July 1. At least 27 practitioners were arrested that day.

Ms. Liu was tried by the Lingyuan City Court on December 16 and Ms. Yu was tried a day later. It’s not clear whether the judge announced their verdicts right after the hearing or days later.

Another five practitioners, including Ms. Wan Guiying, 72, Ms. Li Jing, 64, Mr. Zhang Kunshan, in his 50s, Mr. Wang Zhongxue, and his wife Ms. Wu Yanling, both in their 60s, also stood trial with Ms. Liu. It’s not clear whether they have been sentenced.
