(Minghui.org) Two residents of Leizhou City, Guangdong Province were recently sentenced to prison and a third one faces prosecution for their shared faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Feng Caifeng and Ms. Huang Yuli Sentenced

Ms. Feng Caifeng and Ms. Huang Yuli were arrested on November 22, 2020 while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in Zhongshan City, about 200 miles from Leizhou. They were held at the Zhongshan City Detention Center.

Ms. Huang, a retired teacher, was recently sentenced to one year by the Zhongshan City No. 1 Court. She has been released following the verdict, after having served the term. Ms. Feng, 47, was sentenced to three and a half years. She has been transferred to the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison.

Prior to her latest sentencing, Ms. Feng has been given two labor camp terms before 2013. Following her other arrest in November 2013, after being reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong, she was secretly sentenced to five years in early June 2014 by the Leizhou City Court. She was released four months ahead of time on July 15, 2018, only to be arrested again two years later.

Ms. Wu Yahong Faces Prosecution

Ms. Wu Yahong, a retired elementary school teacher, was arrested in 2020 and then released on bail for a year. She was taken back into custody at the Gaoyang Detention Center in November 2021, after her bail term expired. The police are preparing to submit her case to the procuratorate

Ms. Wu was previously arrested on October 19, 2006, along with her sister Ms. Wu Xiaoying, also an elementary school teacher. After both of them were sentenced, the Leizhou City 610 Office, an extralegal agency created specifically to persecute Falun Gong, ordered a retrial of their case on August 8, 2007, claiming that their prison sentences were too light. It’s not clear what their original sentences were and how long their sentences were extended.

Following Ms. Wu Yahong’s arrest in 2006, all the teachers (except for the principal) at her school wrote to the authorities seeking her release. The Leizhou 610 Office and Education Bureau retaliated by forcing the teachers to write repentance letters and promise not to speak up for Falun Gong practitioners again. Two assistant principals and a director were also suspended from their duties at work.
