(Minghui.org) An 80-year-old woman in Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province was tried at home and sentenced to 1.5 years for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Huiju was arrested on May 12, 2021 and her home was ransacked. The police later released her on bail and put her on residential surveillance.
In August 2021, the police submitted Ms. Liu’s case to the Shuangyashan City Procuratorate, which indicted her and moved her case to the Shuangyashan City Court.
The mental pressure from the persecution took a toll on Ms. Liu’s health. She developed persistent high blood pressure and a heart condition. Because she wasn’t able to stand trial in court, the judge and prosecutor went to her home on November 30, 2021 and conducted the trial at her home. She was later sentenced to 1.5 years with a 1,000-yuan fine.
