(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old woman in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province was recently transferred from a brainwashing center to a mental hospital, as she refused to renounce her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Wu Zhiping

Ms. Wu Zhiping, a retired steel factory worker, was harassed by the police and residential committee director on April 14, 2021. They ordered her to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong. As she refused to comply, two more groups of people harassed her twice on April 19.

In the past few years, Ms. Wu has been persecuted repeatedly. After her husband passed away, her daughter distanced herself from her, due to pressure from the persecution. In the face of the new round of harassment, she decided to live away from home to avoid being arrested again.

On the evening of April 19, she left home and went from place to place overnight. She was arrested shortly after and taken to the local brainwashing center.

Liu Zhibin, the deputy director of Nanchang City 610 Office, personally hosted the brainwashing sessions and ordered the practitioners to give up their faith. As Ms. Wu still refused to comply, she was recently transferred to a mental hospital, where she might be subjected to involuntary drug administration and other abuses.

Prior to her latest ordeal, Ms. Wu has been arrested several times. She was sentenced to 3 years following her arrest for distributing Falun Gong materials on October 18, 2008 and another 3.5 years after her arrest in June 2015.

While serving time at the Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison, Ms. Wu was forced to stand for long hours and deprived of sleep. She had blood in her urine and was emaciated. She also became sensitive to sunlight and would suffer a headache whenever she is exposed to strong light.
